D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation up on dndbeyond!

Hey all, I don't see a thread for this already. The latest adventure is up, and even if you don't buy it you can ogle the contents at least. https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/source/25

    D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

And this way, you get to use the totally rad Kraken! :D Sure. The other dragons are coastline at most, not underwater, so it seems fine to just quietly slot them in there. And what really matters is that one is working for the Cult, not necessarily that it's worshipping Tiamat.

    D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

Are Dragon Turtles associated with Tiamat and Bahamut? Replacing the Kraken with one makes sense for me - I'm keeping the focus on the Cult of the Dragon in my ToD/SKT mashup - but I'm pretty vague on where Dragon Turtles fit into the cosmological setup.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladins Smitw

It's what our lord and savior Mearls would want us to do.

WotC's Chris Perkins Describes Tomb of Annihilation

I'm looking forward to reading this module, and certainly raiding it for a wee trip to Chult expedition for my campaign, but none of my groups displayed any great interest for "zombies and dinosaurs in an Indiana Jones jungle crawl", to my great confusion, so it seems unlikely I'll run it in its...

D&D 5E (2014) SCAG Subclasses: Which do you like?

I think it's safe to say that they absolutely will not publish two contradictory versions of the same subclass, or invalidate a version already published in a later book. Having a subclass be slightly underpowered is a far lesser sin than making people feel like their books are 'wrong'.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annilation: Primer and Surrogates

Judging from Volo's Guide to Monsters, Warlock is the class used for NPC "shamans" and "divine servants". Fire Newts can be Warlocks of Imix, for example. I guess it's a useful class - you don't really want Fire Newts turning Undead through the power of Imix, and the Warlock chassis is also a...

Here's A Sneak Peek At Tomb Of Annihilation On Fantasy Grounds

Some of the maps previewed in the latest Dragon+ have more of a jungly look to them. I mean, they have palm trees, so... :D

    D&D 5E (2014) Updated Xanathar Guide Info

The Racial feats also allow players who want to go in heavy on the theme of their race to do so in game. A Tiefling one that grants more hellish powers, a Lizardfolk feat that grants more survivaly/regeneration powers, and suchlike. I've no idea now what the feats in UA were like, though I did...

    Dragon+ Issue 15 Is Out!

Also of interest - the Maps of the Month are from Tomb of Annihilation. Good preview.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar hint from Crawford?

Let us hope that Crawford et al are scribing furiously to bring about this very end :)

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Survey

Interestingly wide survey. I suspect they want to get a big but shallow snapshot, and we'll see further surveys drilling down into stuff like animated vs live action for TV, or what kind of City State games, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

To avoid the multiattack leads to more fumbles issue - you could rule that only the first attack of each turn has the chance. Honestly though, I think that (outside of comedy-focused groups) it's not a rule that meshes well with the D&D mechanics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar hint from Crawford?

After all of the (endless) Sorcerer discussions on here, I've come to two conclusions: 1) I find sorcerer strangely hard to spell. I keep trying to add another O somewhere in the word. 2) More spells, and ones that are specific, flavorful and sorcerer-only is the key to 'fixing' the class...

    D&D 5E (2014) Undermountain as a Skill Challenge

Thanks for the list! I've heavily plundered all of the Waterdeep stuff - I basically copy/pasted them into my own wiki and then hyperlinked it all - but Undermountain I've not gone into very deeply, so your list is helpful, even if I abort this method. As far as combat encounters, I am indeed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Undermountain as a Skill Challenge

It sounds like people agree on the idea, but not on the very simple tables. I can see that. It's certainly too abstract in my initial version, I'd agree. Something that both Quickleaf and Schmoe mention is bringing out the flavour more heavily; I wonder if bringing in a very limited element of...

D&D 5E (2014) To use or not to use feats

Having just looked that feat up on dndbeyond, I can see how it'd cause problems - especially since the most likely candidates for taking it are Rogues and Bards, who'll likely also apply Expertise to Deception. At that stage, you might as well be a literal shapeshifter.

    D&D 5E (2014) Undermountain as a Skill Challenge

Well, the basic idea is taken from the overland travel in Adventures in Middle Earth, which is of course full of weeks-long forays through the place. That system seeks to really emphasise the fact that the journey matters in Tolkien, that crossing Middle Earth is not just an idle stroll. It also...

D&D 5E (2014) To use or not to use feats

On the other hand, for an archer and a great weapon wielder, those feats are kind of the most flavourful. I mean, I do ban them, but I can see why players might want them...
