Flavor changes, show me the problems.

Inspired by the thread on fixing the half-orc, I've redesigned a few of the base classes and made some slight changes to the normal races. This is for a world in which how magic manifests is governed by your race. Each race seems magic in a different way. While each race is imbued with the...

    XP for NPCs

How about the bbeg? If he starts at, say, 8th level, and the PCs are around 1st, then he's pretty damn powerful and they cannot face him. But as they level, he'd get less powerful. So as they near 8th, I'd slap a few more levels on him. I did that once. The PCs were gestalt characters, as was...

    Possible Cleric Change.

Hmmm... The limit on spontaneous curing is a good idea. I think I'll do something a little bit different, though. Instead of just losing the + lvl (which never seems very big to me...), it goes to the next lowest spell. DruggedDwarf -- I'm not so much trying to nerf clerics as changing the...

    Possible Cleric Change.

Why? The way I'm thinking, at worst they still get sixth level heals. That covers, well, heal. Its regeneration and other such things after that, which arn't nearly so important, imho.

    Possible Cleric Change.

Wow, a lot of good quick responces. Nifft, thanks for the linkage. I like quite a few of the domain powers, though some of it seems too powerful -- maybe instead of upping the power of the other domains, I could lower the power of the healing domain somehow? I don't know how to do that -- it...

    Possible Cleric Change.

Hello ... I am considering a change to the cleric class for game I'm thinking through. The change is this: get rid of the domain bonus spell, allow spontaneous converting to domain spells and domain spells only. So if you don't have the healing domain, no spontaneous healing. What I don't...

    questions: 1)manufactured weapons 2) St.temptate 3) Vo peace & pov synergy bonuses

Hmmm... I'm currently stoned from the acid in lemon juice. Its wonderful, everybody should drink lemon juice (mixed with water, that stuff is highly acidic) Anyway, when did the term "magicals" start showing up for magic weapons? Not to be the pissy stoned guy, but it annoys me. It doesn't...

    Humans and Skill Points; EDITED

Afterwards, definetly. Humans get at least two. And yeah, skill points are precious. Especially to commoners. And most people, of most races, are commoners. And that's why humans really are the best race -- because no matter how dumb a commoner (or anyone else) is, he's got at least two skills...

    Fixing the Half-Orc

I'm so stealing this. Now I may have to run another DnD game, with elven magic being very long-lasting items and the like, while orc and half-orc magic dies with the wielder. The elves will have magical water purification systems, defenses, and artifact-level weapons that have been modified and...

    Vow Of Poverty...

Here's my limited experiece with it. We had what amounted to a two-person game. One of us was a cleric, the other a fighter. We both took VoP, the cleric at character creation, the fighter iirc, got VoP at sixth level. Now what became game-breaking was this ... the fighter was a *forsaker*...

    Role Playing Vs. Roll Playing

A bit of sarcasm. Hackmaster is a 1e/2e/rolemaster spoof with amazingly large tables. You can selection to take a number of flaws at character creation (you get character points for these), and role for them randomly. Ever seen a character whose a greedy self-absorbed jerk with delusions that...

    Role Playing Vs. Roll Playing

I read this, and then had a mild epiphany. I know of a system (and I know of one) that has an indepth merit and flaw system. It is about as indepth as DnD's combat system, and it can really help define the character in your mind. These flaws range from missing a limb to albinoism to even severe...

    Hackmaster questions

Basicaly, everyone here has gotten it right. Hackmaster is half joke, half making fun of the seriousness of 3e, and half making its own players the butt of the KoDT jokes. But take it as it is, don't take it seriously, and it can be fun. The guys over at Kenzer always do a really good...

And that is what I love about enworld -- that people like Mark Plemmons show up and give information straight from the company's mouth. Thanks.

    Kalamar question

Hello everybody, I'm in this Kalamar game, (Kenzer product, and its even a HackMaster game) and I was looking through the main book and happened upon the Sword of the king of Kalamar, which seems to be an unstatted magic item. It origionated by the bodyguard type of the greatest King of...
