DMs, Do you allow your group(s) to play Evil PCs and/or parties, & why?

QFT your QFT. :) It's definitely something that I try to talk about in session zero where we establish campaign expectations.

    Encounter balance in AD&D

I certainly can't contend otherwise on this point! :) So, let me concede this debate from a historical standpoint, where games were focused mostly on dungeoneering. I would like to widen the discussion, a tiny bit, to encompass the slightly more modern approach (say, 2E) of both world and...

    Encounter balance in AD&D

OK, I can agree with the essence of what he is saying, but I am not really talking about purely wandering monsters encounters. Maybe that strays away from your OP a little, but I think the topic can stretch to all monster encounters, random or otherwise. That's where we appear to diverge. I...

    Encounter balance in AD&D

I would argue that all but one of those citations is in regards to internal player balance rather than Player vs Monster balance. The monster citation seems to concern balance in monster design rather than encounter balance. Newer editions have both an implied and mechanical approach to...

    Encounter balance in AD&D

I think it brings us back to the idea that it is all up to what the DM wants to accomplish in his/her game. A number of goblins as shown in the Monster Manual might be great for a specific situation with a low-level party, but at the same time it might be important to adjust that number to...

AD&D 1E What system pick to run Tomb of Horrors 1E

Man up and use AD&D! ;) Seriously, you could probably use Swords & Wizardry Complete pretty easily, and even Basic Fantasy if you flip the AC. If you don't have access to AD&D books or the reprints, check out OSRIC.

Now that Paizo is on the verge of releasing Starfinder, should WotC bring back Star Frontiers?

I'm not even interested in Starfinder. If I want to do SF then I will use W.O.I.N. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk

Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

Monks. I just don't like them. It's absolutely silly that they rub me the wrong way so much, but my players always make jokes about making a Monk whenever we start a campaign and I just give them a sour look.

The Wandering DM - My Journey Home

That's interesting because strangely enough I really enjoy AD&D 1E as well, I'll be running a 1E Forgotten Realms campaign soon. It might be a two-sides-of-the-coin kind of deal where they both offer different flavors of the same thing.

The Wandering DM - My Journey Home

Nice! The Star Wars RPGs never kicked off here, but X-Wing and Armada sure did.

The Wandering DM - My Journey Home

Cool! I'm glad 5E had that effect for you. Did the system itself rekindle your passion or was it a community revival due to the new edition (or something else)?

The Wandering DM - My Journey Home

I am in my late twenties and started with one of the last D&D: Adventure Game (Fast Play) boxed sets printed under the TSR Anniversary logo. My wife and I are not in the best of financial situations due to college debt and she is currently pursuing her MBA whilst we both work full time and rent...

D&D 5E (2014) Your one best piece of GM/DM advice?

Don't be afraid to run the system that YOU (the GM) enjoy. Players should have input in the game played, of course, but the game cannot even begin to exist without GM buy-in.

Pathfinder 2E AD&D 2nd Edition Character Sheet - Basic Custom AND Spell Sheets!

My favorite sheet for my favorite edition. My only suggestion would be to use some of the inventory space for a supplies section based on tick boxes for water and food. I've always liked that approach rather than adjusting a line in my actual inventory. Thanks for all the hard work! :)

    High Visibility Dice

Those are actually pretty nice. I wear contacts, but otherwise don't have any sight problems, but those are definitely easy to see.

    Tavern Tables

Nice stuff! I will certainly use it. Thanks for the hard work! :)

How you imagine physical features of OTHER player characters

I imagine details and all that. My group is pretty descriptive, so it is pretty easy to do. One player would probably fall under option one, though, as he doesn't offer as many details and deals in general features. I'm with ccs where I'll keep asking questions, even of the general player, to...

    Flying Buffalo's Legacy - Part 2: Tunnels & Trolls

That's probably because he means "fluent in wargaming" as in map and cardboard chit wargaming, not miniature wargaming which has subsumed the general term of "wargaming" these days.

Does Your Group Allow Homebrew or 3PP Material for D&D Games?

I don't limit the use of 3PP content. I think variety is what makes D&D, and RPGs in general, so powerful, but I have said "no" to things before, but mostly from a thematic point of view rather than anything mechanical. I do remember not allowing Psionic characters in my 3.5 campaigns...
