I have to agree with Umbran on this, as the upsurge in popularity of D&D is starting to be blown out of proportion a little bit. Do I come across more people who know what D&D is these days? Sure do, but that doesn't mean those people are playing D&D or watching D&D.

I think it comes down to how you learn. There are visual learners and there are non-visual learners. I bet there is a correlation in there somewhere.

Overall, I'd echo what others have said and say that I prefer a good DM above all else. That being said, I would say that I prefer playing (and DMing) in an emergent homebrew setting.

With the design of 5th and the design snippets we have seen from Pathfinder 2.0, I am certainly starting to appreciate the 3.x rule set much more than I used to.

I guess my question is why even do physical playtest sales? It just seems very double-dip-ish to me. To then use the retailer/physical partnership as a reason for holding back the PDF release seems a little disingenuous to say the least. WotC didn't feel the need to produce a physical version...

I guess that is kind of my point. Do they really NEED to release printed playtest books? No, they WANT to do so to ensure a little double-dipping for Pathfinder 2E adopters. I'm not begrudging them money, but it is clear as day that they are delaying the PDF release to build up anticipation...

I voted rules heavy. I argue that 5E is a lot more granular than 1E and is a veritable morass compared to Basic, be it Holmes or Mentzer. I would definitely categorize it as medium, if the option was available, but rules light it is not.
