Since D&D isn't feasible for them, I'd pick either Castles and Crusades or Edge of the Empire. Castles and Crusades allows for a nice generic fantasy game, whilst almost everyone knows at least something about Star Wars.

It all looks pretty good to me. I understand the need to not mess up the three core books with all the Errata and everything, but I am still sorely bummed that the three books won't be out all together.

About half of us do, half of us don't as it slows down the session. I would agree, however, one of the people that instigates this is the DM. He is a power gamer at his core and even when he is DMing he plays a character as well.

OK, so essentially a starting Sylvan Elf will, at most, only ever be just about to come out of adolescence?

That's what I thought at first, but then I realized if for instance I wanted to make a Sylvan Elf, and take all four Traditions as Ranger past my starting tradition, not even if I rolled maximum for my age for each one would I be able to break out of the Adolescent bracket.

My only exposure to L5R was a very brief experience with two starter decks quite a while ago and one novel in the setting. I've never been able to garner interest in it so we've never gotten RPG-deep into the setting at all.
