Sorcerer "Swiss Army Knife" Spell selection

Telekinesis on Colossal Siangham (assuming you can carry them) or Gargantuan Nunchaku (can definitely be safely carried in a Bag of Holding) or Colossal Crossbow Bolts (cheaper, but they break) is the best direct damage spell in the game, dealing 30d6 (Colossal Siangham) or 20d6 (Gargantuan...

    Experiences playing "oddball" (base) classes

I'm currently playing a Society Mind (possibly the best support character ever?) in a high-powered PbP campaign. It started just recently, so I'll have to tell you how it is later. Fortunately, we're starting at level 10. Sadly, the class looks like a pain to play at low levels :(, especially...

Maybe Rope Trick, but Goodberries? Travel rations are cheap...

Sorcerer "Swiss Army Knife" Spell selection

If you want true versatility as a Sorcerer, you could go with the Shadowcraft Gnome build (I'm not a huge fan of the Mage of the Arcane Order, as it is feat intensive and you don't get access to high level spells through the Spellpool; something like Incantrix is far better :) ). But this...

Sorcerer "Swiss Army Knife" Spell selection

For Sorcerers, you probably don't want more than a few damage-dealing spells over the entire lifetime. Direct Damage is usually a suboptimal strategy in the first place (battlefield control effects like Black Tentacles and Solid Fog and save-or-suck/die effects like Glitterdust usually trump...

If you haven't banned Mage's Disjunction, how have you house-ruled it?

My biggest beef with it is it destroys magic items. Changing it to suppress magic items for 1d4 rounds as per normal with Dispels would make it far more balanced (I guess you'd have to take out the part about destroying artifacts...).

    Spells which you dont allow

In the current high-powered campaign I'm in, the DM has banned only Alter Self, Polymorph, Polymorph Any Object, and Shapechange. Of course, they made it clear there is a caveat... I'd probably also ban Wraithstrike. EDIT: Oh, and Disjunction.

A dragon can outwit a party of adventurers. Can you?

It might actually be easier to run dragons in 4E since they have fewer abilities, so the space of tactical possibilities is smaller.

    Negative spell slots

Have them take ability burn to Constitution every time they use a spell like that. You regain ability damage with rest, so when everyone heals HP during that hour, they'll heal some of their ability burn as well.

    Frenzied Berserker+Exotic Weapon Master+ Barbarian= broken?

Eh, Frenzied Berserker isn't that great. One Grease spell pretty much shuts them down since they can't make Balance checks while frenzied. While that's great for preventing friendly fire (I hope your Wizard wins initiative, mwahahaha!), it's not so great against a smart enemy spellcaster. Oh...

    12th level AoO build

If you want an optimized character, you probably shouldn't take Knight past level 3. Go with a Fighter and possibly Monk (2 levels) base. A Spiked Chain could be good since you're not using Stand Still.

Whats wrong with the 3E fighter?

Are you using Rapid Shot with Manyshot on the same action? That could be the problem here (you can't do that). Otherwise, archer builds are usually out-damaged by those 2-handed melee weapons, not to mention dominated by the full casters and high level spells.

Character development (a very long post)

Well, I'd advise you to put all your level up stat increases in Wisdom. The +1 attack and +2 damage (you are holding your weapon 2-handed, right?) isn't worth the loss of a +1 DC and more bonus spells. You want your bonus spells.

Is the Spiked Chain Fighter really that Cheesy?

I thought we were talking about whether the spiked chain is cheesy, not whether the spiked chain is realistic.

Whats wrong with the 3E fighter?

If all your Wizard is doing is shooting out Fireballs from levels 1-20, I think you're not playing your Wizard to its fullest extent. Indeed, just imagine what the Fighter could do if the Cleric buffed him with Divine Favor, Divine Power, and Righteous Might, and the Druid used the Bite of the...

Is the Spiked Chain Fighter really that Cheesy?

The fact that perhaps one of the most optimized lockdown builds doesn't think the spiked chain is worth the feat should show that the spiked chain isn't as hot as you think it is. ETA: I'd like to add we're not just talking about viable here. We're talking about highly optimized builds not...

Whats wrong with the 3E fighter?

Feats don't scale, a great deal of planning is required, and spells are better in general. At level 1, the Druid's riding dog animal companion is on par with a Fighter, and comes with a free Druid to boot (the fighter comes out ahead at level 2, but the riding dog still comes packaged with the...

Character development (a very long post)

Unless you absolutely prefer melee over spellcasting, Str 16, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 17 (16+1), Cha 14 would be a better ability layout. 16 Str is enough with the buff spells you get, and the higher Wisdom gives you more flexibility. The Cleric gets some great spells, and you shouldn't...

Is the Spiked Chain Fighter really that Cheesy?

The point isn't whether you'd allow this build in a campaign or not, the point is lockdown builds don't require having a spiked chain. This build is perhaps the most optimal fighter lockdown build, and it does so with a longspear. If the spiked chain is as broken as you say, why did the...

Character development (a very long post)

Shift it to 14+1 Wis. Your wisdom is absolutely too low :(. Most melee clerics depend on buffing with (Quickened) Divine Favor, Divine Power, and/or Righteous Might.
