Mana Point System - What Has To Change and How?

Fixed link. Basically the idea is to give players more flexibility in their power usage. Right now, pretty much every character is like a 3.5E Wizard, and this changes them into 3.5E Sorcerers. Well ideally, the link between DMP and EMP would limit players' ability to nova. I'm not sure I...

    Paragon Multiclassing Buff

I'm thinking this is too strong. Right now I'm thinking of the action point ability being treating ability mods as 1 higher with the power used during the extra action, gaining instead of replacing an at-will power at level 10, and adding an extra at-will power at level 16. I still really want...

Mana Point System - What Has To Change and How?

In this thread, ameinild introduces a mana pool system that allows characters to use powers more than once, along with rules that promote power flexibility and a way to recharge mana. Later in the thread with the help of Stalker0, I developed another version that I would like to try in a game...

    Marksman - Martial Controller

First off, adding Int to attack rolls is incredibly powerful, even adding half Int would be way too strong as a class ability. Consider characters could easily get a +8 to Int at high levels, and that will take a character that normally hits 50% of the time to hitting 90% of the time. Doing a...

    Rogues and Melee Basic Attacks

And monster AC improves by roughly 3 points over your attack bonus on average if you pump the ability, so it's a spread of 8 points total compared with a level 1 dex attack. Which is terrible.

    Abstract Stunt System

I don't think the bonus should scale. Attack bonuses and defenses in 4E scale roughly at the same rate, such that there is a roughly constant hit rate across the levels. Thus, stunting will be much better in the higher levels than in the lower levels. Same for skill and ability checks. Speed...

I don't see anything wrong with it.

Archer Ranger Changes - Forked Thread: Why be an archer ranger?

Hey, you're right! Piercing Strike is better than Twin Strike with bows because it gets another +2 attack on top of targetting reflex defense (+1 from dagger proficiency and +1 from the Rogue ability). So nerfing archer rangers isn't needed.

    Stealth revision..

I'm not sure about that. It's not clear from page 269 whether the end of your turn is still considered part of your turn. In Magic the Gathering, for instance, it is.

Archer Ranger Changes - Forked Thread: Why be an archer ranger?

While replying to this post, this happened. :D I must say I really hate this idea, although YMMV. It adds more bookkeeping, just forces the player to keep a throwing weapon, and it will not be fun for the player once he runs out of arrows and can't do anything for the rest of the session until...

I Just Cut & Pasted The Message Window

I was typing up a forum post and wanted to cut it to the clipboard, when I accidentally selected too much and... I thought it was really cool :D. I could even paste it into Word!

Archer Ranger Changes - Forked Thread: Why be an archer ranger?

Fixed link. I really like the general idea of this, but attack bonuses are extremely important in 4E. This impacts more than just Rangers (and I assume laser Clerics, Warlocks, and Wizards were more or less balanced before this). And it's a huge nerf for the times when they're stuck in that...

    Continuing beyond Healing Surges

There are three problems with this. First, clumping occurs over the short run. So someone who relies on this and uses up too many surges may suddenly find that they recovered no surges and be too weak to carry on. Second, this doesn't result in the steady state or even a gradual decrease even...

    Power recharging - mana pool

Three things: skill powers, mana recovery and balancing powers. Skill Powers Some powers are encounter utility powers that can be used with skill checks. Obviously, they're pretty powerful with a mana system, as mana is rarely used outside combat. As part of a simple skill check, it's...

Archer Ranger Changes - Forked Thread: Why be an archer ranger?

I think you make a good point with regards to the fun issue. I still disagree with the Rogue issue though. I'm not trying to compare ranged Rogues with ranged Rangers, I'm comparing a melee Rogue to a ranged Ranger. A lot of the really good Rogue powers require a melee weapon, and the problem...

Archer Ranger Changes - Forked Thread: Why be an archer ranger?

I'm guessing you didn't like my idea of granting the bonus if they're close and "have a clear shot" at the target? What would you suggest? Because it's not fair and it's not really fun. Fairness first. The rogue has to go through the trouble of flanking the target and generally being in...

    Battlerager....Overpowered?

Perhaps here's another way to think about Battlerager Vigor. Toughness is widely regarded as one of the best feats. Battlerager Vigor gives you around three free Toughness feats, and Battlerager Vigor Fighters also get the opportunity to take one or two more Toughness feats (Dwarf Stoneblood...

    Battlerager....Overpowered?

Let's try to quantify this. Let's suppose a Fighter hits with 2 Invigorating powers per encounter and gets hit 3 times in melee per encounter, for a total of 5x Con temporary HP, and they are fully used up. I imagine the Fighter might gain more temporary HP than that, but also some of it will...

D&D 4E How to create a line effect in 4E

Shucks, you're right. From looking at the picture, I think the areas would be roughly the same if touching a side of a square makes it hit the square but touching a corner does not. Still, that gets the odd result of the line effect hitting squares right beside the caster when used in a...
