Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

For sure! I’m an old hand. It’s more for younger/newer players like my nephew and friend’s kids I’m asking for.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

Are there species trait templates offered in the new MM? For example, “drow uses the scout stats”…and then you have list of drow traits (faerie Fire, 120’ dark vision, etc)? Or is it just the scout stats and nothing to differentiate drow scout from svirfneblin scout?

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

The YouTube video -that I can’t remember creator of- where I heard him reference that …something Goblin something blog interview with Jeremy (I looked it up but feels like ages ago)… in that video the creator drew a parallel to the internal WotC approach and the 2024 playtest of the Rogue’s...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

I don’t know either. I’m sure other folks have ideas about why WotC chooses not to be transparent with their monster design/math process. I can offer one insight…from something Goblin something blog… interview with Jeremy where he describes their internal process of translating conditions into...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

There is absolutely a system – lots of references Jeremy Crawford made to spreadsheets/maths used internally in interviews. I've posted them before, don't have time to look them up again.

(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

If you're thinking of going along the Northeast waterfall passage... it's a tight squeeze for Medium creatures. Jack, Lumorolur, and Logrim (and kobolds) would fit no problem. @Steve Gorak Aric, in Large spider form, wouldn't be able to fit in that passage.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

@I’m I actually really enjoyed your follow up comment about your experiences teaching and our formative cultures… However the unfriendly tone of this message leaves me feeling you’re more interested in scoring points than having a polite conversation trusting in the other person to present...

    D&D 5E (2024) 5e 2024 − The Monster Math

Quick question for folks with new MM, that’s math adjacent: I understand some monsters hit harder, for example frost giant dealing cold damage in addition to a physical damage type. In the case of man-sized creatures dealing only B/P/S damage, which have higher damage in 2024, is there a...

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

Thank you for the review Beth! Does anybody know if there are species templates in the new MM which can be applied to the various NPC stat blocks? For example: [goblin] mage The 2014 DMG had a couple species templates that described how to make a NPC of a given species.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

I forgot how much I enjoy your thought process, Kamikaze. Always a pleasure hearing your feedback and views. Yes, a future product that they can't discuss yet involving fey or fey goblins would make a lot of sense. Uff, yeah that's confusing. But some kind of a goblin species template applied...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Sorry for delay writing back to you all! Between health/insurance challenges and trying to help some folks being affected by recent changes in U.S., my time for games is being eaten up. Really good questions! I didn't expect so much response or to be so contentious, and I'll try to address main...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Finally got a chance to read/watch a bit about the 2024 Monster Manual fey video. I’ll start by saying something positive – Jeremy Crawford & Wesley Schneider’s enthusiasm for the new MM really shines through the talk, and I’m appreciative of the obvious passion they’ve poured into the book. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is a PC's "CR"?

Obviously take CR with a heavy grain of salt, and trying to create the CR of a PC with an even heavier grain. Depending on your purpose in this exercise, i’d recommend calculating defensive CR with the resistance, and then without the resistance to get two separate values of which I would take...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is a PC's "CR"?

For whatever it's worth, here's how I ran the monster maths from 2014 DMG with your half-orc rune knight: TOTAL CR = (9 + 7) / 2 = 8 DEFENSIVE CR 9 effective hp = 112 + 14 treating Relentless Endurance as DMG treats Undead Fortitude (for expected CR 5 to 10) x 1.5 Hill Rune resistances to...

D&D General Running a Monster Hunter style protracted hunt and staged battle against a dragon

Oooo, I have rough draft un-tested stats for a mushussu dragon I wrote up that you can pillage ideas from... "Initially invulnerable" sounds a lot like a "trick monster" where the players need to puzzle out the trick / weakness / strategy to harming the monster. Maybe the Mastermind Rogue...

(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

GM POST It's difficult to say which is more nerve-wracking – clinging to your goblin ally shapeshifted into a massive hairy-legged spider up the shaft dropping into darkness or riding the rickety bucket lift operated by the kobolds turning a creaking crank. Only Jack, with his gossamer wings...
