D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

IIRC, the spirits of dead elves go to the Hall of Mandos or are reborn on Middle-earth. I’d assume Morgoth made some mechanism that enforced the later for orcs.

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

It’s worth remembering that Radiant Citadel, the most unabashedly progressive product 5e has released. Still has disease spreading owl demons, masses of twitching limbs, and faceless aberration dudes, all with “typically (something) evil” clearly displayed. The servitors of evil entities...

D&D 5E (2014) How Are Orcs Different In Your World? (+)

I’m still figuring it out, but at present I perceive the orcs of my setting as the “shonen rivals” to the main civilizations. There was a split between them that neither side completely forgave the other for, and as a result they come to blows a lot. But they respect each other, and have each...

D&D 5E (2024) Make the most outrageous claim about One

I normal skip right over the example of play section, but One D&D’s depiction of the duel between the Lady of Pain and Pun-Pun was a true work of art. I’ve read it five times now and it still rings a tear to my eye. I especially loved their mutual eulogy of Fistbeard Beardfist (which didn’t...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alignment

It’s been touched on in the one-shots I’ve run, but not delved into. If I run Curse of Strahd at some point, the Dark Powers and whatever force behind the Symbol of Ravenkind are probably going to care about it….

Dragonlance Dragonlance: Dragons of Deceit Review

I wouldn’t go that far, but “literary quality” needs to get an actual definition before I can judge if something has it.

D&D General DMs - What makes You...

When it comes to changing lore: Often because a piece of lore comes this close to being just right. I’m making a list of lore edits to put in if I ever run Curse of Strahd, not out of any dislike for what’s already there (aside from one detail), but because it’s good enough that the tweaks I...

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

Gnomes are just dwarfs from before we got it into our heads somehow that dwarfs are the non-magical race.

Is Tolerance a Lawful thing ?

Either/or. Chaotics could like tolerance because it allows people to live as they are without unnecessary interference, while Lawfuls can like it because it help reduce unnecessary conflict and keeps society from tearing itself apart.

D&D 5E (2014) What creatures would you use for this...

Blights are very plant-y and forest-y, and can cause an extra problem if they can turn the crops into more blights.

D&D General Could A Npc be Racist towards Elven Thieves but he's willing to befriend Elves that aren't Thieves and he will tolerate Thieves that aren't Elves?

It sounds like this character holds elves to a higher standard than others. Would he have any particular disdain for elves committing any other crimes?

D&D 5E (2014) Give Me Any D&D Monster and I'll Homebrew You A Better Version

Twig, needle, and vine blights. Also, can I see a bumped up to CR 1/8 lemure? And just because I’m curious at what you’ll devise, commoner.

D&D General DnD cosmology - Which Edition do you prefer?

Fair point I suppose, I don’t know what mindset and actual person in D&D universe would bring to that issue. But I could say that same thing about how they’d approach other parts of life. I guess it’s a s you say, tastes vary. Thanks for some of the background information on 4e by the way...

D&D General DnD cosmology - Which Edition do you prefer?

Bytopia and Arboria are incredibly different. Bytopia is quite and peaceful, a place were people can live relatively ordinary lives without anxiety. Arboria is emotional, ever-changing, and loud, like an eternal party that even nature is participating in. Same with Pandemonium and the Abyss...

D&D General DnD cosmology - Which Edition do you prefer?

I think both Great Wheel and World Axis overly “physicalizes” their non-earthly realities too much for my liking, but it’s a matter of degree. In the Great Wheel I can still see something that vaguely resembles the central principles that underlie religions. Not just “x is god of y” Wikipedia...

    D&D 5E (2014) Toward a new D&D aesthetics

While I don’t personally mind the blue/purple/pink theme as much that Scribe points out, I think it does show WoTC adhering pretty close to a “detault” palette for certain concepts. Just as blue, purple, and pinks are the unofficial colors of magic, fiends and the lower planes are overwhelmingly...
