Complete Adventurer - 10 Reasons for Players on Wizards site

Wow more ways to make the already unviable arcane spellcasting classes more unpalatable to play.

    Eldritch Knight PrC bonus feat

You should remember that the bonus feat only entitles you to select from the fighter bonus feat selection. So no things like arcane strike.

    What's wrong with metamagic?

Cost too much for way too little benefit, basically a double cost feat. Pay once to get it, pay continously to use it. Ridiculous. In 3.5 they're even worse then in 3.0 and the nerf is one of the main reasons why sorcerers are crap in 3.5. Another indication of the lack of playtesting in 3.5.

    Have (wizard) concept, need crunch!

Are you fixed on playing a wizard? How about playing a sorcerer instead? The backstory flows except with a slight adjustment, drop the liking of books. Being a sorcerer Jacob can work on his natural charisma and someday (with ability score increases and skill point investment in charisma skills)...

    New FAQ (10/12/2004)

Is there anyway we can abuse this new ruling? ie can a cleric abuse increase caster level nastiness to turn into an advanced version of lets say a beholder? Beholder with 25 hd? How would that increase the dc of it's beams?

Rant: WotC can't design their spells "right"

It isn't but it's a kludge to fill the void behind by Haste. Just like the Orb spells are a kludge to try to fix WoTC mistakes in 3.5. Unless WoTC fixes the fundamental problems then these kludges ultimately won't fix anything.

Rant: WotC can't design their spells "right"

This would mean that WoTC has to admit that they made a huge mistake with 3.5 which will never happen. The only reason why blaster mages were viable in 3.0 is because of Haste. The problem with 3.0 was that there were too many supplements increasing the DCs of spells to crazy levels. This...

High Level Feats (especially) for Fighters

Doesn't this mean that if you start giving martial characters powerful high level feats it will upset the balance?

    Slow is naaasty

Actually slow isn't really that great. In fact it is probably one of the last spells I will prepare. Why is this? My reasoning is that a person has to fail a will save in order to be affected by slow. Now lets have a look at other effects that can happen if they fail a will save. Glitterdust -...

High Level Feats (especially) for Fighters

I think you will find that this is quite a popular opinion not just in your wargamers club. I think the cause of the discrepancy is because most board posters don't actually play by most of the rules of DnD, if they play at all. They insert a lot of house rules into their game to enhance...

    Giving fighters something to do.

What version of DnD are you playing? Are you aware that Spellcasting Prodigy has been nerfed? Might I complement your player on a fine job of mix/maxing an otherwise substandard class.

Collegiate Wizard feat - big boost to diviners?

It's probably because arcane casters are sub-optimal and inefficient to begin with. So anything afterwards seems overpowered. Psions are balanced when compared with other character classes. The contents of 3.5 was made in response to irrational whiners calling for the nerfing of arcane classes...

Rant: WotC can't design their spells "right"

Notice how none of the spells you listed are direct damage? WoTC made a huge mistake in 3.5. By removing Haste and nerfing pretty much every arcane spell there is, they've effectively made arcane spellcasters unviable. Now they're trying to correct their mistakes by trying to enforce their views...

Rant: WotC can't design their spells "right"

What does this mean really? That 3.5 was a complete dog's breakfast and that it wasn't playtested at all? Would they do us a curtesy of issuing a completely rebalanced errata or would that be too much. I'm presupposing that once the spells are "rebalanced" we'll get more crappy spells like...

Collegiate Wizard feat - big boost to diviners?

I think in your particular circumstances you're being screwed. Wizards are only viable in a campaign that assumes a lot of things. I wouldn't touch arcane casters in your campaign with a 100 foot barge pole. In order to get the Collegiate Wizard feat you'll have to start again at 1st level (it's...

    Sudden metamagic and item creation

So no official or clear ruling one way or another but a good house rule might be cost the magic item as if you were using the normal version of the Sudden metamagic feat. I think I can go with that.

    Sudden metamagic and item creation

How would you calculate the pricing of a magic item that contains a spell modified by a Sudden metamagic feat? eg a scroll of Sudden Extended Mage Armour?

    Player powergaming: mea culpa

I'm sorry but the original poster's character is so not powergaming. Powergaming as I understand it is when you do things like Cleric 7 with Divine Metamagic: Persistant Spell and persist a Divine Power and use Spikes and Magical Vestments with Bead of Karma to do insane damage and have super...

Fun things to do to a wizard's spell book

Nice plot device. Unfortunately no one in my campaign plays arcane spellcasters.

    Player metagaming

Players playing wizards metagame the most and I can see why. Without metagaming wizards end up being useless more than half the time. Which is another reason why my players don't play them.
