    Wizard specialization incentives

Which leads one to wonder about the competence of the designer who designed the 1st elven wizard racial substitution level. The only penalty being "cannot specialise". What a throwback to the 2e kits with similar retarded reasoning.

    Wizard specialization incentives

I'm not entirely sure search function is working but Andy Collins strongly implies this in the discussion threads about the Elven Generalist Wizard in Races of the Wild.

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

By the same token you cannot accept that campaigns can also work without downtime. Continually implying that players in those campaigns are selfish or immature do not show much maturity on your part. At higher levels, crafting item does not just invovle 1 or 2 days off, it is weeks or months at...

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

They usually do this because they can't show up for a session or more. I rarely have this problem as none of my players play wizards anyway and thus I'm not constrained to change my campaign story to reflect frequent downtimes. My players also don't feel obligated to change their play styles or...

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

Oh I see. When you say allowing for downtime, what you really mean is that the character who wants downtime forces all the other characters to have downtime as well whether they want it or not. Additionally the campaign has to be changed to support this as well (ie the BBEG will somehow halt...

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

Certainly, if a character wants to take downtime, and the others want to adventure then of course the character who wants downtime doesn't have to go on the adventure. They just go do whatever they want to do, eg exercise class abilities and laze about, instead of adventure. This is pretty much...

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

Are all of them required to take craft items? No. Only 1 of them have an Item Creation feat forced on them.

The Beloved Downtime and Gather Info

I don't force players to take downtime if they don't want to. Generally they don't because 99% of the classes don't need downtime. Gather info can be done as part of normal adventuring.

    Wizard specialization incentives

The designers disagree with you. Even with core rules, the specialist wizard is so much better than the generalist wizard that the generalist got a huge boost (see Elven Generalist Wizard racial substitution level in Races of the Wild).

    Wizard specialization incentives

Basically the designers think that specialist wizards are more powerful than generalist wizards in the core rules as it stands. Make of it what you will. However if you think generalist wizards are more powerful than specialist wizards think on this, why is it that clerics get all the benefits...

    Is The Web Spell Broken?

If you thought Web is overpowered, what about Entangle? Twice the area effect of Web and 1 level lower.

    D&D 4E DnD 4E DOA?

Please let there be 4th edition tomorrow! I would love to see all the fan boys lose more cash to buy more poorly tested, conceived and executed materials.

    EnWorld DM to Player ratio

Hurray for DMs! Without whom there can be no game. I DM and prefer to DM.

    Wizard build?

They nerfed way more than that. It actually doesn't matter anymore. If you insist on playing a wizard one option is as bad as another.

Anyone know of a good spellcasting archer PrC?

Elven Cleric with Elf and Time domains or Elf and Planning to go the Divine Metamagic Persistant Divine Power route.

How do you handle time with item creation?

If I may be so bold as to ask, what is wrong with that? Mythology is full of stories of child prodigies, young adults raised to greatness at an early age etc etc. Additionally where does it state that you have to start adventuring as a young adult? Why not at sometime later in life? Where does...

How do you handle time with item creation?

I was refering to big unwritten assumptions in the game. The designers assume that the cleric in the iconic party is destined to waste their spells to heal and buff the party, essentially relagating them to a support only role. Thus to compensate, the cleric is given an obscene amount of power...

    RANT - Obsession with Clerics

DnD was made with this assumption in mind. This is why clerics have been given such obscene amount of power. Ostensibly to compensate for their healing and buffing role.

How do you handle time with item creation?

What's wrong with having no downtime? It all depends on the campaign story, quests etc etc. Unlike character wealth, DMG doesn't even really provide any guidelines on this. They really need to state big assumptions like downtime and clerics using their spells only for support into the core rules.
