Is WotC now licensing the AD&D license?

Ping a mod and ask for the thread to be deleted. You should also be able to edit the thread title, if you want.

Is house ruling fair to the game or gamers when first introducing it?

Also, if I were running a demo at a con or a game shop or the like, I would try to run the game as-is, with no house rules.

Is house ruling fair to the game or gamers when first introducing it?

Showing my friends "Spock's Brain" isn't fair to my friends, nevermind about ST:TOS. ;) If I'm teaching my friends a new RPG, and I don't like a rule, I tend to go ahead and house rule it, tell them that, and explain why I changed it (briefly). I don't care whether it's fair to the game or not...

Getting it wrong... good ideas gone bad

I'm going with low standards. I know that's me. :)

What are Your Favorite Out of Print RPGs?

I'd go with M&M 2e, since it's OOP or nearly so. Twilight: 2000 was a favorite back in the day. Previous versions of Hero, especially Champions 2e & 3e. GURPS 3e. Gamma World, even though we never got to play it long-term. As I've been packing for the last forever, I have seen many of these...

    Wild Talents

I have it, but just because of my habit of buying superhero systems. :) Haven't played it, though. I've seen ORE (the underlying rules engine) discussion on RPG.net.

How far are we from colonizing off Earth?

Charles Stross has had some interesting blog posts on this subject; here's one. He does not seem to think it's terrifically feasible, barring some impossible-to-predict technological inventions. He points out the many areas of Earth that are uninhabited, yet far more inhabitable than Mars or the...

    Books With "Tear-Out" Maps

I tear 'em out. Very carefully, though, and sometimes with the help of a box cutter or the like, for those where the perforation is more of a suggestion.

Save or Die: Yea or Nay?

Of course, if the Outlaw Josey Wales were a D&D character, he'd probably not be 1st or 2nd level, so he'd have to empty his six shooter into the average monster before he'd have a chance at killing it . . .:p Which is why I can't quite like d20 Modern; gimme GURPS or SW or SR or something like...

    [August] What are you reading?

I was about to post in the July thread and realized, hey, August, for more than a week. So, new thread. I started Jeff Somers' The Electric Church last night.

When someone on your ignore list misrepresents you

The thread shows up on the forum; you can see replies (as long as they're from people you aren't ignoring), but not the original post. You also get no mouseover text on the forum index. I don't remember what it looks like when the only post is by someone on your ignore list; I think it's all the...

    Girls (Females) in D&D/Roleplaying

    1. Two. 2. Don't know, I haven't kept demographic statistics on people I've gamed with. 3. Don't know, aside from the same way any player does -- which depends on their individual personality. 4. No. 5. No. 6. No. 7. Diversity is probably good for any group (excepting hate groups, I guess). 8...

    Insults!

"Did your mother intend to mate with whatever your father was?" "Say, that's a magical greatsword of overcompensation, isn't it?" "Is it the chainmail chafing that makes you so irritable?" "You're a couple of bolts short of a quiver, aren't you?" "Charisma may be your dump stat, but that doesn't...

    Pre-Ravenloft Vampire Villains

Something like that. I think I just packed D3 yesterday, which is probably why I remembered 'em (though I had to google the names). Didn't one or both also reappear in one of the Paizo-era Dungeon magazines?

    Pre-Ravenloft Vampire Villains

Belgos, the drow vampire from Vault of the Drow (who has a succubus girlfriend, Silussa).

Taking dice away from the players

Marvel Superheroes Adventure Game, which used the Saga System & was published by TSR, used cards as randomizers. I think you're thinking of the Marvel RPG put out by Marvel itself -- Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game. On topic, I don't think I'd find it very fun to play an RPG with the GM...

    Broken Links in Archived Threads

My access to non-.org sites is limited ATM, so doing random checking is a PITA, so my extremely brief check didn't turn up any non-ENWorld, non-functional links, so I have no idea why they aren't working. Those sites/pages may simply not exist any more, or those sites may have been moved or...

    Deadlands & Earthdawn

PEG's been posting some conversion documents for Classic adventures, too. They have four done so far, and more to come; they're on the downloads page, under Deadlands Reloaded. They also have several other PDF adventures on sale (Coffin Rock, Saddle Sore, Don't Drink the Water, Murder on the...
