Also Dark Sun has conventional magic, it's just ecologically dangerous.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

I've only DMed up to level 12 but I've seen actual plays of higher level games and if anything fights seem to take even longer at those levels. I think Vox Machina vs Vecna was 8 rounds and that was with a party of 8 players (including Joe Manganiello.) So if 5.24 really has combats ending in...

    D&D 5E (2024) Where to next, WotC?

I'm almost certain that if they update Dark Sun to 5E it will be rewritten to allow the core PHB species, possibly with a sidebar about optionally limiting it to the classic Dark Sun ancestries.

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

There's no way to get that without re-implementing the damage immunity or some other trait like the loup-garou regeneration.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

But that's where I take issue: I don't think 5E's design encourages these problems, or alternatively, I don't think some of them are problems. Like, rest and recovery is not a flaw, that's the system working as intended to keep the game moving instead of having to slowly heal up after every...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

You're making a lot of assumptions that are emphatically untrue at my table... and the repeated assertions that main character syndrome is at play here strikes me as a 'hey kids get off my lawn' sentiment. The OP's campaign was too easy due to the party having an unreasonable degree of...

    Second person plural pronoun

Though 'everyone' is still a grammatically singular word. You say 'everyone is afraid sometimes' not 'everyone are afraid sometimes'.

D&D General If I had the D&D/WotC Worldbuider job, I would... (+ thread)

There's no need for D&D to be homogenous. Witchlight is a deliberately whimsical Feywild adventure. Baldur's Gate 3 is a body horror-fueled meditation on the nature of identity and faith. It would be nonsensical and incoherent for them to share a tone.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Pathfinder 1E is tasty if you like the flavor of 3rd Edition but if not then... not really palatable.

...what? Like I'm not saying that the two don't have very different tones, but why on earth would you think different works having different tones in different mediums is a flaw? They both have exactly the tone they need to for what they're trying to accomplish.

Instead of focusing on brand new settings, I'd want to start by fleshing out existing ones. Hire people of east Asian and Middle Eastern descent to work on Kara-Tur and al-Quadim, bring on Jeff Grubb to help flesh out Spelljammer, and bring in some sincere Dark Sun fans to make a faithful...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I don't think anyone is trying to tell Jews what they should be offended by. We're just trying to explain why publishers of RPGs changed it. They want to preempt any controversy even if it wasn't likely to ever become one.

    Second person plural pronoun

Definitely. I have a DM who constantly uses 'you guys' when having NPCs address the party regardless of who is speaking and it always sticks out.

It also says 'certain' magic items, and wearing them implies clothing items. I guess you technically wear swords when they're in a scabbard but for game purposes you wield them.

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

I feel like he didn't misjudge what players were keen to do, he just didn't like the fact. He wanted the game to center on humans and since the other lineages got more default features, he gave humans the better advancement to balance them. If I recall the received wisdom, he generally preferred...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

At level 12 my party appears to have 29 aside from their Space ship but that's counting several one use items like scrolls, potions, and exploding fire darts. (I say appears to have because some of them aren't great at adding things to their inventory.):cautious:
