D&D 4E The Business of 4ed Part I: The Problem

I hope it all works out. I really do. The success of the industry depends upon the success of D&D. While I only plan on buying the PHB, MM1 and DMG, I hope I am joined by gazillions of others.

    D&D 4E 4E: Manufactured Excitement

RE: The Original Post I agree with some of the things you wrote, Two. (Taking a shot at poor MerricB was not nice, though.) I started gaming in 1982. I've played through the Blue Box Basic, Red Box Basic, 1e, 2e, 3e and 3.5. Having gone through all of that, I'm fairly unimpressed with a new...

    Disaffected and Affected Setting fans!

Greyhawk for 1e AD&D What Hooked Me It was a DM's playground. Make your own history. Take a few paragraphs describing a nation and make it your own. What Lost Me Greyhawk Wars and From the Ashes. I felt as if my home had been burglarized. What Got Me Back The Living Greyhawk Gaze teer was so...

Keep your filthy points of light away from me!

Points of Light makes a lot of sense to me. The MM is full of beasties that are bigger, meaner, faster and stronger than humans. Surely hordes of orcs, gobbos and other critters would have acted as a check on any developing human nation? It's nice to see a diversion from the tired Eurpoean...

Iridia 54 and Supporting Podcast Now Available

November 5, 2007; Iridia No. 54; D&D 3.5/GURPS 4e In this issue I pick up a few neglected projects. To begin, I offer a review of Goodman Games' "The Mysterious Tower," which is actually the 4th module published in the Dungeon Crawl Classics series. This excellent module adds to the heritage of...

    I Bopped Him!

I find that banana phone to be a far better actor than the DM in the related video.

    I Bopped Him!

I can hear Lorraine Williams now. "Wow! That video was so great! How about we invest a pile of cash in Dragon Dice? We can't lose!"

ROBOTECH RPG - its back, and its new

It's easy to be confused. For a while FASA was using mechs that looked exactly like those from Robotech. Mechs like the Wasp, Warhammer, Rifleman and Super Phoenix were dead ringers of those seen on the Robotech cartoon. I believe FASA was ordered to cease and desist the use of those...

Another great read as always. Thanks for sharing. :)

What other games do you play?

True. You really need something like GURPS Powers to make a superhero style game. It can be done with the Characters book, but not as well. Someone above mentioned ASL. Oh man, I used to have so much fun pushing the counters around the map. I wish more people played wargames. They are glorious.

ROBOTECH RPG - its back, and its new

Oops. I meant Kevin, as in Kevin Siembieda. He owns Palladium. I have no idea who Ken is. I think he owes me money, though. ;)

    Og!! Caveman gaming

You just described some of the first grade classes I used to teach. "I make pee!" "No want!" "Math hard!"

What other games do you play?

Some people have a hard time making the transition to GURPS, especially from D&D. Others, though, love the change of pace. I'm with you, though, I'll always slot it way up high on my fave games list. What's not to love about a game where a heavy crossbow pointed at your head really means something?

ROBOTECH RPG - its back, and its new

I'm happy for Ken. His company has been groin punched of late and this might be the boost they need. I hope they sell a ton of copies.

I can't get to Skeleton Key Games' website

Hopefully, Ed just forgot to renew his domain. I, too, hope it's up very soon.

    Boxed Sets

I was looking through my Night below box set the other day. As I was doing so, I was amazed at the volume of material within. Booklets, handouts and even a battle mat filled the box to capacity. I love how much stuff can be put in a box!

    Improvised/home-made minis?

These are all so great! I thought building terrain was hard, but wow, minis look tough to make. You've inspired me to get out my Sculpey to see what I can come up with. Peace, Christian

    Dead tree D&D mags

I send out a weekly single-sheet zine called Iridia. It's also available online in .pdf. The folks who receive the print version say that it's nice to get something in their mail box other than bills. Although we may see a print rpg magazine, I doubt it will be a viable project. There have been...

No Love for the Dragon Turtle?

I love dragon turtles. In the 80's there was a module in Dragon mag called, "Can Seapoint Be Saved?" In addition to the excellent cartography, the module featured a dragon turtle. It had been charmed by a wizard and was used to intercept shipping. It was a fun module. After getting cooked by the...
