I may not have killed them off initially, but your players were doing something that I don't like: They were taking an unnecessary risk and assumed you would bail them out. I think your warnings were pretty clear. They had to expect something bad to happen. Your ultimate solution was fair, since...
I will definitely pick a copy of this up via Lulu. LL has really inspired me. Perhaps when my 3.5 game concludes, I can get the players to give it a go.
I loved Wapcaplets. Monsterpocalypse sounds like such a fun game. I think I might pick up a copy so that I could review it for my zine. Cthulu vs. Godzilla! FIGHT!
Rereading this thread, i have to ask, "Does it even matter what WotC thinks?" The only opinion that matters to me is, well, my opinion. Am I still gaming? Am I still having fun? Are my players enjoying our campaign?
If the answer to all those questions is yes, the who cares about "the industry"...
I think Tigerbunny makes some good points. Wizzo is a business owned by a publicly-traded corporation. It is their job to sell a product and make money. While they value the opinions of their customer base, they need to explore avenues of income that might grate on the nerves of some. DDI, the...
In my mind, it's the players' game as much as it is mine. If they have to step out for a call, or if they check something online with their lapper while another PC is doing his thing, then cool.
Great question, OP.
Yes, I am aware of my own shortcoming. I worry that I do not provide the PCs with enough likable NPCs to care about. I think that's really important, to have NPCs the PCs befriend, marry, take care of, sponsor, etc.
I'll add my voice to the choir and say that I'd love to see Osric in print. I really think retro clones are a boon to the hobby since they preserve a style of play so many of us grew up with.
I really, really like LL. I've always loved Moldvay Basic D&D, so LL is full of awesome, as far as I am concerned.
I should really check out some of the other retro clones. I really want to play some 1e style D&D.
Reprint; Iridia 51
Iridia will be switching to a digest format with Iridia 81, due to be published Monday, November 3. I think that having a print rpg digest in circulation is an exciting prospect for old school gamers like myself. In the meantime, I'd like to share Iridia 51, which was...
Hello all,
A few folks have written to express their interest. One person had a great suggestion that I thought I'd throw out there. In order to increase the number of players at the table, I'd be willing to run this game as a 1e AD&D campaign. The rules are so similar that the spirit of the...
Iridia No. 76; Labyrinth Lord
I decided to press on with the Freecity of Haldane after all. In this week's installment, I present part one of a two-part series that details some of the major political factions and organizations in the city. In this issue you will learn about the Order of the...
As D&D grows more complex, I find myself looking for a simpler alternative for my fantasy role-playing needs. Fortunately, there are a number of OD&D/Basic D&D retro-clones on the market. Currently, I am taken with Labyrinth Lord from Goblinoid Games (goblinoidgames.com).
Labyrinth Lord (LL) is...
