    More feats, fewer choices

What I dislike about all the stat prerequisites is that it commits the cardinal sin of 3e character creation: the need to pre-plan your character from 1st level. It's not as bad as 3e, but if you want to do certain things later in your career, you need to have planned for it at 1st level and...

Only 2 PC's - DM run character class should be ___?

I would recommend a Warlord, since it would enhance the coolness of the PCs, helping them without hogging some of the spotlight for himself. Warlords are also decent meatshields.

    D&D 4E 4E feats: impressions

I like that there are reasons to wear scale armor. In 3e, there were basically only two types of armor that people used: mithril shirt and full plate. Now, there's a decent tradeoff with each type. Plate's only +1 AC better than scale, but it has much more of a check penalty, and there's a...

    D&D 4E 4E feats: impressions

That's awesome! The best implementation of a "jack of all trades" in D&D so far. Isn't that a paragon or epic feat? Remember that characters get +1 to all their stats at levels 11 and 21, so the starting Charisma doesn't need to be as high as a 13. Plus, characters get +1 to two different...

    Who's better at Multi-classing?

A playtester posted some information about the half elf's multiclassing here

D&D 4E How do you feel right now about 4e?

That's not much of a poll, considering that there are over a dozen "I don't like 4e!" options, and only two that are positive towards 4e. And one of those, "I was going to go to the new edition no matter what", is a bit leading. I didn't vote, because there's no "I like what I've seen of 4e...

How will you read the core books day one?

Open the PH first, and excitedly skip from section to section like an overcaffeinated 8 year old with ADHD. I'll probably start by looking at the classes I want to play, but before I finish reading the powers I'll probably skip to the feats section, and then to rituals, maybe magic items, and...

Info on the Wizard (Looked at the book today)

Did you see what some of the rituals were? So spellbooks can also be used for utility powers? That's good to know.

    Minion rules and monster summoning

The minion rules have gotten me thinking about monster summoning powers. 3e monster summoning added a lot of bookkeeping to the game, required lots of extra rolls for the player, and usually wasn't very effective.. When monster summoning powers are added to 4e (if they're not already in...

D&D 4E 4E PHB Viewing at Games Plus, what we saw

How were the rituals organized? Are they by power source (ie. Clerics can cast "divine" rituals), or by class (ie. clerics cast "cleric" rituals). What were the wizard rituals like? Were there any summoning powers in the book? A long time ago it was suggested that warlocks would have some...

Are you buying the rule books separately or as a gift set?

Heh, that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm going to gift the single PHB to a friend who' still a bit on the fence about it, and can't really afford it on his own.

    Profession skills and 4th ed

For a spelljammer game, where everyone is a sailor, why not just make it an aspect of Athletics?

    Skills for modern/future?

Most of those people would be untrained in driving though, just average joes. Piloting a plane would have to be a trained-only use of the skill. My list, things I add in bold and things removed in italics I agree about Endurance, especially in a modern game. Why a Bureaucracy skill? I...

    Monk = __________ Striker

Ki = Martial. I wonder what they're going to create monks as. Their role in 3e was basically as 'striker', but only because they were lousy in standup fights and were fast. I'd actually like to see monks as defenders. Lightly armored, fast moving defenders. In most Wuxia films, the martial...

    What makes a monster?

I've never DM's 3e. Too much preparation busywork. :D IMO the problem with the phantom fungus isn't that it lacks "fluff", it's that it's a numpty creation. It's a mindless invisible fungus that eats people. Woo. No amount of background fluff could make that interesting roleplaying-wise...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

An "immediate interrupt" goes before the triggering action, but the triggerer can still take his action after the interrupt (if he's still alive, anyway). Plus, characters get only a single immediate interrupt per round. The change to Combat Superiority is what makes the fighter in KotSF less...

New Classes & Campaign Settings: A Thought Exercise

I don't think that "knight" should be its own class, since it's more a matter of social background than combat role. Fighters, paladins, and warlords all fit in well as Knights of Solamnia. That's even more true for Knights of Neraka. Knights of the skull are clerics and mystics, with some...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

The Fighter only has 3 trained skills. Is that an error? I don't remember how many skills the D&DXP fighter was trained in. The Fighter's combat challenge and combat superiority have changed. That's quite a big last-minute rules change, and makes the fighter significantly less "sticky."

    What makes a monster?

Orcs are iconic. Everyone knows what orcs are like, even millions of non-gamers and non-geeks who have seen the Lord of the Rings movies. There's no real need for fluff. For the fluffier monsters, like githyanki and githzerai, I expect to see some more description. Not pages of it, but...
