New Classes & Campaign Settings: A Thought Exercise

The flavor of the Mystic makes it sound much more like the Primal power source than divine. 4e Sorcerers are probably going to be primal controllers, so a 4e mystic might work best as primal leaders. It would fit the role they seemed to have in the Saga flavor text and books. The mystic is...

    May previews

Wow! After reading the Orcs preview, I have a sudden desire to DM 4e. And I have never, ever had that feeling about 3e.

    [Trailer] The Spirit

Right. The spirit isn't a dark and vengeful character. He's a regular bloke who wears a domino mask and regularly gets the living crap beat out of him while fighting crime. He's much more like Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Moonlighting than Batman or Sin City.

Graphic Novels for a 10 Year Old...

Ha, that's an excellent description. The Ultimate marvel rewrites would also be good choices. I especially like Ultimate Spider Man. The Claremont run on the X-Men is also a great story. The first volume is available here in color, and here in black & white, with more issues than the color...

D&D 4E 4e Multiclassing structure and Weapons of Legacy, Dragonmarks, etc.

Many of the dragonmark powers are ones that would now be covered by rituals. As such, it shouldn't be unbalancing to make them into daily utility powers that you get in addition to your other utility powers. I just hope that the powers they give are unique, not just carbon-copies of cleric &...

Chaos with At-Will Cantrips, and Casting Discretion

Bah, everyone knows that acid is neon green and bubbles. ;)

    Fun with Multiclassing

Heh. Considering that Gandalf's primary role seems to be inspiring others to action, and leading others in melee combat, I'd say he's a Warlord with Arcane Initiate. His custom designed epic destiny is, of course, Gandalf the White.

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

This is generally true, with a couple of exceptions. The first is when it's a setting where certain skill sets or spellcasting are common skills, and everyone does them to some degree, like in the Vlad Taltos books. In these situations, a house rule is probably the best solution, such as...

D&D 4E 4e Multiclassing and Characters from Fiction

Vlad Taltos - Rogue multiclassed with wizard, with the Ritual Casting feat for the Witchcraft (psionic?) power source. Morrolan (and the other Dragon lords) - Fighter, multiclassed with wizard, and either uses his paragon path to go further into Wizard or has some nasty magical paragon path...

D&D 4E Weird & Wacky Stuff You Want in 4e

Aranea. Ever since the Red Steel setting, they've been one of my favorite races. I hope that some day we'll have PC race stats for them. I've always had an absurd love for the Flail Snail.

    Class features after 1st level?

Except for simplicity and flavor. There's also no reason to not get all your available powers at first level (ie. 4 encounter & 4 daily), but they're only doled out in a relatively slow progression. There may also be class abilities that don't suit the flavor of 1st level heroic-tier...

    Class features after 1st level?

Yes... yes, I strongly suspect that's true. :D

    Class features after 1st level?

We know most of the class features that the classes get at first level, like the rogue's sneak attack & rogue tactics options, the paladin's marks and channel divinity, etc. We also know that paragon paths give additional class features. These are all separate from the powers that all classes...

    Feat progrression

The numbers given are the levels. In your example, the character gets a paragon path power, a 7th level power, a 3rd level power, and a 1st level power.

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

That's an excellent point. I hope you're right about that. In addition, there may be class-specific feats that multiclassing 'unlocks.' There were some complaints that this system doesn't model Conan as well as 3e. But Conan becoming a rogue wasn't really a class/power thing, it was...

    D&D 4E Life Points - 4E Mechanic?

I hope so too. Or, if they make a 4e-ish version of d20 Modern, or some other non-D&D game based on 4e rules. One of the podcasts (or maybe it was a blog) mentioned that they used on draft of non-random damage. The designers said that it worked great, and was really quick, but it didn't feel...

    D&D 4E Comparing 4e Races

What strikes me as a bit odd is that half of the races in the PH get a bonus to Charisma, more than half if you count humans. 4 get +2 charisma, 3 get dex, 2 get wisdom, 2 get int, 1 gets con, and 1 gets str.

What makes a bard a bard?

Inspiration, music, and charm. With some decent fighting skills. The "leader" role, in other words. If they have magic, it should be magical music not standard spellcasting, using songs to enthrall opponents and the like. Definitely not jack of all trades, or illusions. If a 4e bard wants...

Gamer Radio Zero - Races: Choose the Races: D,G,G,H,S

I thought that the Drow and Genasi have been confirmed for getting full race write ups in the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide. I also though that WotC has said that there will be no "half-orc" race, just straight up Orcs.

    D&D 4E 4E Liker - anything you worry about?

Fears: 1) That characters won't have enough powers (max 4 encounter powers & 4 daily powers at 30th level??). This could lead to boring tactics, as every combat starts to look like same. But mostly, I just like variety, especially in spellcasters. 2) Rituals will be expensive to cast, making...
