Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

They also said that it would throw off monk prestige class prerequisites, and would make Monk even more tempting as a quick multiclassing "dip." I think it's a bit cludgy, but I can accept it.

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

Mind Thrust has that effect too, and may be even better at it than psychic brand. While +Cha bonus to damage is nice, mind thrust gives an effective +Cha bonus to all attack rolls, which arguably is even more powerful. If the creature dies, the psion can use the power on another creature.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

In my experience with 3e, they almost always are, after the first round of combat. It's not in conflict per se. But it becomes a problem when the monk is so much worse at combat when not flurrying that it's almost never worth it to try to outmaneuver. Most of the time, any "advantage" you'd...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

They get full BAB when flurrying, and for their CMB. I'm curious why the designers didn't just give give it full BAB in general, rather than these somewhat complicated exceptions. The only difference is that the pathfinder monk is now at its weakest when acting, well, most like a monk: when...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

This is exactly my problem with it. Any skill could be divided into multiple sub-skills. Sneak used to be divided into Hide and Move Silently, and could logically be divided into various types of sneaking, like Sneak (forest) or Sneak (urban shadowing). As a result, the decision whether or...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

I don't like that there are NINE "perform" skills in the first place. This "use Perform (cello) instead of stealth" cludge would be completely unneccessary if the pathfinder designers just reduced Perform to a single skill. It's a truly bizarre design choice. They combined listen, spot, and...

Tome of Magic: The Binder (Questions)

I briefly played a Binder/Swordsage, and he was both lots of fun and quite powerful. The Paimon vestige is quite nasty when combined with Weapon Finesse and the shadow hand feat that allows you to use your Dex bonus for damage instead of Strength. The two or three levels of swordsage gave him...

    Swordmage Double Aegis Question

Yes. While you couldn't take two OA's on your opponent's turn, there's nothing preventing you from using an OA and an immediate action against the same opponent.

June 2009 - What are you reading?

I'm reading the first book of Hammer's Slammers stories by David Drake. It's fun military Scifi about a mercenary company. Unfortunately, I can't help but think of the Grammar Slammer Bammer every time I read or say the title. I also just started reading Ursula Vernon's new book Dragonbreath...

I'm the same way. If anything, the bard in the preview seems just as much of a redheaded stepchild as it used to be. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll reserve judgment until I see the full class. Not only is the bardic music duration nerfed, but it now requires fiddly round-by-round bookeeping as well.

Tell me about your favorite game store

Glyfair speaks truth. Between Books is awesome, and so is Greg. He regularly brings in Scifi/Fantasy authors to do readings and signings, and does a lot to support local authors, both new authors and ones who have been around forever.

Question for Scott Rouse re: Retroclones

It's also not Scott's job to make legal decisions for Wizards, let alone decide whether the company is going to litigate. If you recall, Scott could only give answers about the GSL after the legal department set the policy. He could advocate for certain positions internally, but the final...

Tell me about Spirit of the Century

Neat. In an old game of mine, there were many allusions to Testicles, Bearer of the Great Spheres.

Tell me about Spirit of the Century

"The world is my wrestling mat" "I can do a magic ritual, but I need some refried beans and salsa to draw the pentagram" "I grapple his soul" For Chris: "I hit the girl in the face" "Stop calling me Douchebag!" For Atlatl: "OOOOOOooooooo" "Tiny dragon body, enormous TARDIS-like brain" "Khem...

Tell me about Spirit of the Century

That's what I meant. Fate dice have a steep probability curve, so that +2 is a very large difference, mathematically. Also, going from a standard reroll to an 11-20 reroll is effectively a +5: the average on a d20 is 10.5, while the average on the M&M reroll is 15.5.

Tell me about Spirit of the Century

It might be a bit difficult to adjudicate all the different spell effects. A good magic system is one thing that SotC is lacking. I've been thinking for a while now about how to use Aspects in M&M. M&M's hero points already work a lot like Fate points, so it would be easy to say something...

    Surreal RPGs

No list of surreal games is complete without the Low Life setting for savage worlds. It's a post-apocalyptic world populated by sentient cockroaches, Hostess snack cakes, poo, tapeworms, and other bizarre beings.

Assigning 2 attributes to saves and initiative

Either Wis or Int would be fine. Wis would make slightly more sense to me than Int, but Int does seem to be the "mental quickness" stat in 4e. b) whether I am alone thinking that will and fort could be believably folded into one defense You're probably alone in thinking that, yes. What will...
