    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin exploit?

Crit-fishing isn't that reliable (no 4 attacks with 19-20 range) for Pallies in the first place. Secondly, you know full casters? They can nova better with their slots, without having to wait for a crit first.

    D&D 5E (2014) Return of the Fighter/Mage ... Swords & Sorcery characters

Paladin is your best bet for a warrior-caster, really. Eldritch Knight flunked out of magic school, and cannot even cast with a weapon in hand. Good luck with your 2nd-level spells at lv12! They're just a meaningless detail on top of their otherwise regular basic attack routine. Warlock has no...

D&D 5E (2014) Those of you who have actually PLAYED 5e...

Oh my god, that page is wonderful. Thanks for the link, the PHB spell list is unusable.

D&D 5E (2014) Those of you who have actually PLAYED 5e...

Decide how to handle stealth ahead of time, so the messy rules don't have to be looked at during the game. Just look at any of a number of Stealth threads for differing opinions on how to handle it.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "best" character for ONLY levels 1-4

Human Fighter/Rogue, who has Shield Master as Human feat. From lv2, you have a bonus action knockdown to get your Sneak Attack with, and Expertise in two skills, fight7ng style, and all the armors. Moon Druid lv2 onwards, because turning into stuff like giant hyena is broken.

D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian vs Fighter vs Monk

Monks get 1 ki per level. Which is not a lot, but at least you can pretend to nova. Monks without Ki are just sad. And Shadow Monks are sad at all times.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bless and Bane spell

I dunno... Would PCs just get Baned without a clue as to where it came from, or would they get told the orc Shaman gesticulated and pointed a gnarly finger at them, and then they were baned? With all the verbal and somatic components casting requires, it's not exactly stealthy. Unless we're...

D&D 5E (2014) Effect of Darkness spell in combat

I dunno... This forces us to look at the stealth rules again (whether everyone knows where everyone else is unless they're hidden), and no-one wants to do that.

    Swordsage: The Complex Fighter

UTILITY: More to do outside of combat?. I know, there's mega-Perception from Diamond, and a stance like Hunter's Sense, but something more varied (not just bigger numbers) for the higher levels... Class features like developing fame, being able to leap epic distances when it matters (when...

D&D 5E (2014) Why play a low-level Fighter when the Barbarian is so much better?

This, this is the proper question. Pallies get it all. And I don't even begrudge them, it's nice to have some class that supports a charismatic leader. That has something else to do than just roll to hit.

D&D 5E (2014) Effect of Darkness spell in combat

Yes, you read it right, everyone inside darkness attacks normally (because they have both advantage + disadvantage). It would make more sense for everyone to just have disadvantage, but it could have been done this way intentionally, so it's not just a miss-miss-miss for multiple turns. Plus...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

Eldritch Knights are still using 2nd-level spells by lv12, though... And they cannot cast while having a shield + weapon in hand. Because it's not like a warrior would ever have those, huh. You could pick up Warcaster, but then you're adding a feat tax to the class, just to get it functional...

D&D 5E (2014) Why play a low-level Fighter when the Barbarian is so much better?

Barb without Rage is a weak kitten. And the frenzy path with the bonus action attack exhausts you.

    D&D 5E (2014) Half Elf vs Human

Human Feat vs Half Elf +2 Cha, +1 skill proficiency, elvish, darkvision, charm/sleep/aging resistance Half-elves get more as a generic package. However, that feat from 1st level makes a focused build so much better! Or thematic, if that is a thing for you. Heavy armor master, Shield master...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you like the simplicity of 5E monsters?

No, I don't like them. They're just differently-sized HP bags. They are the laziest of design.

    D&D 5E (2014) There's one thing about 5E I don't like...

Multiclass, some of those give you new skills. Learn new languages or tool proficiencies by spending a bit of time and 250 gold.

    Swordsage: The Complex Fighter

Actually... page 190 of PHB. INTERACTING WITH OBJECTS AROUND YOU Here are a few examples of stuff you can do in tandem with your movement and action: draw or sheathe a weapon open or close a door withdraw a potion from your pack pick up a dropped axe take a bauble from table remove a ring from...

    Swordsage: The Complex Fighter

Swordsage's maneuvers have got nothing on the average spell in complexity, and that he can activate one every turn is no more harder to grasp than Rogue or a Monk making their bonus action decision. Nothing he does approaches the power or utility of Wizard/Druid, and he seems to do less damage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shield Mastery Feat

If the feat meant 'after you have attacked this turn', it would say so. Instead, it says 'when you take the Attack action'. Attack action is what leads into attacks, but these are separate things, as you can have multiple attacks per turn, the Attack Action just encompasses all of those. Given...
