D&D 5E (2014) 5e PHB Warlock Advancement Table Spells max 5th Level but Spell list max 9th Level

This keeps coming up, because a class having 3 different methods for gaining their spells is just as confusing as it sounds. :p

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

Or the DM may say 'hah, no'. Whereas a caster has a feature that says 'this thing WILL happen, no arguments'. Like, you needed GM leniency and three rolls to go your way for that example to work out? A caster needed one knockback from a spell that was likely going to do stuff on top of that.

D&D 5E (2014) [Guidance] What, +1d4 to every check ever?

Bless adds only to attack rolls and saves, and costs resources. Combat use isn't the problem. It's that outside combat, Guidance adds to ANY ability check, and is limitless.

D&D 5E (2014) [Guidance] What, +1d4 to every check ever?

With Cleric/Druid/Tome Warlock/Bard from lv6 onwards/anyone with Magic Initiate feat being able to pick it up, I think it's going to see a LOT of use. I don't have a problem with the idea of it, but I dislike it being always applicable AND behind an extra roll.

D&D 5E (2014) [Guidance] What, +1d4 to every check ever?

I think that kind of suffers inflation when you invoke your god for everything... 'Good luck for this mule trade haggle' 'Jump good over this fiendish gap! You too! And you!' 'My god knows how to scare this street urchin for info!' It's just a +2.5 to everything out of combat. Which certainly...

D&D 5E (2014) [Guidance] What, +1d4 to every check ever?

Okay, Cleric/Druid cantrip, Guidance, gives you +1d4 to use on any ability check, after you've seen the roll. It only stays on you for a minute, but there is no limit to reapplying it. So, as long as the Cleric/Druid keeps rubbing one of his mates (or touching himself), anything that doesn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

If the rules were embracing the abstract, you wouldn't have at least 4 separate portions of the rules trying to cover stealth-related things. It would be mentioned under Stealth that 'you can use this against Perception to be hidden, provided there's cover for that (ask your GM)', and be done...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

No, but multiple people keeping asking about how the stealth system works does make it so. If they were good, they would be clear, and there would be much less clarifying needed.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

You cannot say bad rules are intentional, just because there's a 'do what thou wilt' clause. When there's multiple rules segments that try to cover stealth (and fail), rather than a single section saying 'roll Stealth, or maybe not, ask your GM', they obviously wanted to offer you a codified...

    D&D 5E (2014) Perform Skill & Instrument Proficiency redundancy

As long as players know ahead of time that a Background that gives tool proficiencies is less valuable than one that gives direct skills. You can pick up any tool prof with a few hundred gold if you have a year to spend. Which people should do after their first adventure?

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid wildshape...

Yes, Wildshape acts as a huge temporary hitpoint armor. Twice.

    D&D 5E (2014) Perform Skill & Instrument Proficiency redundancy

Yeah, the tool proficiencies are a horrible idea, executed badly. You have skills already, why introduce some bloody not-skill skills?

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

Whoooaaaa, good point. Plate barding would give him AC 18 (but cost 6k and reduce his speed to 20ft), chain barding would cost just 300 and give no penalties for AC 16.
  14. Juriel

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

That'd be nice. If it had any AC or HP for more than the first turn. :p That poor AC 10. Giant Crab is a medium beast of 1/8 CR, who has AC 15 and can grapple for free with its attack. It could potentially tank two guys, one for each claw. Giant Poisonous Snake is a medium beast of 1/4 CR, who...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

Which would make sense, if every caster summon spell didn't give them free actions. You can have a dozen skeleton archers by raising Undead, that is 12 free attacks every turn by expending a few slots... Who remain a valid threat, thanks to bounded accuracy. It actually wouldn't be OP, because...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

Rules say 'whether the attack hits or misses, you are no longer hidden AFTER the attack'.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

Very much this. It just seems like an okay (definitely not strong) class got two defining chunks split off from it. There could be a specific Beast Master archetype, but that should be the one that buffs your beast into a goddamn tyrannosaurus of awesome. With Animal Handling, Nature and...

D&D 5E (2014) Opportunity attacks : low vs high level consequences

It's actually more likely they'll spend slots on making their alpha strike even better, making them more of glass cannons... Because it's unlikely they can withstand the conga line of beat-ass that any enemy party can bring against them (let alone if they have ranged attacks).

D&D 5E (2014) Opportunity attacks : low vs high level consequences

Tactics with this: wolves form a conga line, as you can attack at any point of movement, and after the first one eats the Fighter's AoO, the rest just walk past him and each bite the Wizard in turn, then move out of the way of the next wolf. Not sure if that's working as intended.

D&D 5E (2014) The Burden of Being Small

Yeah, no benefit to being Small, but also, only -5ft speed and no Heavy weapons as penalty... I do hope they codified some stuff behind Small, not just what you can talk your GM into. But it's not a huge deal.
