    D&D 5E (2014) What's on your 5E 3rd Party Essential List?

The Tome of Beasts I-III and Creature Codex from Kobold Press. I also sometimes use the Tome of Horrors from Frog God. And, since I'm currently running a campaign in the setting, The Koryo Hall of Adventures (Korean-inspired setting) by Aurelien Lané.

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

If I were cynical, I'd say they're not concerned about making the books easy to use because they want everyone to use D&D Beyond and/or their new VTT instead.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Responding belatedly to this point. That idea may have crept in somewhere along the way, but it wasn't the reason the thread was started. From the very first post: "Since its release into the Creative Commons by two different companies, 5e is now an open system supported by hundreds of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

So why are you acting like you have to stop playing 5E because you don't want to give WotC money? That's the part I don't get. Maybe you didn't mean to imply that, but that was how it sounded to me when you talked about how RPGs are "a luxury that I can get through hundreds, or possibly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Right now, you really don't. You can play a pretty complete game from what's in CC, or if you really want the books, you can easily find secondhand copies of the core books. (This is referring to 2014 D&D 5E, of course, but the 2024 version hadn't come out yet when the thread started more than...

But you don't have to pay WotC in order to play D&D. Is the point of the thread.

D&D 5E (2014) Not upgrading? What version of D&D 5e are you sticking with?

I think the only thing I use from Tasha's is steady aim for rogues. And I wouldn't fuss if a player wanted to use the floating ASIs, but I don't think anyone has in the groups I run for. Apart from that, it's all pre-Tasha rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Out of curiosity (I've been a bit out of the loop), what is the latest WotC action that has caused widespread fan outrage? The most recent one I'm aware of is the Pinkertons thing, but that was a while ago and I wonder if I've missed something.

This is amazing, and I somehow missed it the first time around. Thanks for sharing!

ToV Sell Me on Tales of the Valiant

How different are the monster stat blocks? I love KP's 5E monster manuals and have considered picking up their new one on that basis. But I'm not going to switch to TOTV for regular play, so I want to know how much conversion it takes to plug a TOTV monster into a 5E (2014) game.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes available for the DnD 5e Club Any classes I should add?

I don't see any reason to assume they'll be doing that. But if they were, it would be just as big a problem if the club were focusing on 5E 2024, because the vast majority of information online is still geared toward 2014. I guess the OP could mention that and advise the club members not to try...

D&D 5E (2014) Classes available for the DnD 5e Club Any classes I should add?

Not to club members who are new to the game. They just show up, look at the materials provided, and pick from the options in front of them, right? They'd only become confused if they deliberately seek out the 2024 rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes available for the DnD 5e Club Any classes I should add?

I don't see how that affects the approach one way or the other. The idea is not to overwhelm the players with the number of choices. I mean, you could offer just the 3PP options if you want to make a point, but that seems kind of like reinventing the wheel.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes available for the DnD 5e Club Any classes I should add?

I'd just start with the basics (which WotC has covered) for new players.
