D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Seen it and done it. In Tier 1, off the top of my head: Beholder zombie, young blue dragon, the puzzle box in Descent into Avernus. Also came pretty close with a banshee. ETA: Oh yeah, forgot the basilisk. Though technically the PC was just petrified, not dead.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond 12 Days of Christmas 2024

Are these only available if you get the mail? Maybe only for paying subscribers? I didn't hear from them.

D&D General What’s the story here?

So, that little figure that it's coming toward must be Mohammed?

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

From what I gather, they drifted out of the hobby sometime in the 3.5 era due to moving, families, and other "adult stuff." They skipped 4E entirely and got back together again when I started running a 5E game online. I wasn't part of this original group, but I was friends with a couple of...

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

Most of the players at one of my tables go back to AD&D but really got deep into D&D in the 2E era. They love 5E (2014) because it reminds them of "2E with better math," and they are sticking with it. They don't even seem interested in the 2024 version.

    D&D General BG 1,2, DiA?

I'm running DiA right now and enjoying it. If the amount of material in the book looks useful, you could do worse. Depending on your party's level, you might even be able to repurpose one of the dungeons.

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

Key word there is "longterm." They patched things up so that they bounced back from the effects of the OGL fiasco. That doesn't mean they weren't concerned when they were in the middle of the fiasco and accounts were being cancelled so fast that it overloaded their server. (Also, they are...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

Oh, if we're talking finances, then yeah, I haven't heard that WotC was worried about that. They were worried about the PR, though, and the boycott made clear just how unpopular the move was (according to the sources I know of).

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

Source for this? Because most people seem to think that the mass account cancellations on D&D Beyond were what got WotC to actually listen to the complaints. It may have bounced back right away afterward, but during the scandal, all sources I've seen agree that it did indeed feel the boycott.

D&D 5E (2024) No more Cleric and Sorc dips!

    (oops, answered my own question.)

D&D 5E (2024) No more Cleric and Sorc dips!

That's also true of the 2014 rules, so that isn't driving the change in dips.

    I hear it's called Project Sigil. ;)

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

The fact that it dropped just a few weeks after the OGL fiasco certainly didn't help. It meant that a lot of people who might otherwise have given it positive word-of-mouth publicity either boycotted it or were too ticked off at WotC to want to help them.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your Experience Like with '24?

The fact that you use the phrase "turd polishing" suggests that you weren't enthusiastic about 5E to begin with, though.

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

A question just to stir the pot: In a home game that nobody is going to profit from and no outsiders are going to see, is there an ethical difference between generating AI art for various characters and using copyrighted images from the internet?

    D&D 5E (2014) Suggest a monster

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone! Someone pointed me to the Painted Phantasm (CR 7) in Tome of Foes 3, so I wound up using that (actually, two of them) for this encounter. But my party is going to be infiltrating a wizards' stronghold soon, so I expect to need more spellcasting foes soon...

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

Got a link, by any chance? What's insane about it? I think it's great!

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

Not to be a broken record, but the Adventurer's League adventures are short and official, and while they range from excellent to terrible, there are quite a lot that are decent quality or better.
