i don't particularly agree with the original poster that later editions of the game lack what Belorin so nicely spelled out... the main gripe is rule multiplication and min/maxing: there were min/maxers even in the beginning, as far as i can gather from the stories i've been told, and everyone...

Hello. Just a quick question here. does anyone knows how much the 4th edition will be backward compatible with the previous editions? it seems that 4e will be somewhat rule lighter than 3.x... is it just my impression? will we be allowed to run adventures and settings from even older editions...
