    Who Will Get the Axe?

Uhm...no. First, having heard from quite a lot of people at all stages of the distribution chain, 4e is selling. Well. And so are adventures, which means people aren't just buying, but actually playing. Whether or not you like 4e, its commercial success is an objective fact. (I have never...

Come and Get it. An explanation ?

Fairly easily. The fighter does whatever it that attracts oozes, the oozes mindlessly attack the seeming yum-yum. The power works fine as written for unintelligent creatures and low-intelligence melee types. It's only when used against creatures with ranged attacks that it give me (and I suspect...

    Who Will Get the Axe?

I wouldn't read too much into who was "let go" or is "pursuing other opportunities". Mass layoffs like this tend to be based on pure headcount and formulae which have little to do with "X was a good worker" or "Y caused too much trouble". When an individual "leaves to spend more time with their...

    Oh. Damn.

    Who Will Get the Axe?

That would suck; I just got into HeroScape. :( Of course, layoffs suck overall; I'm surprised it's happening this fast. Traditionally, WOTC lays people off in December. I have to wonder if the timing was to make sure they had all the warm bodies they needed to handle GenCon. Layoffs...

Come and Get it. An explanation ?

And if the goblins are casters with ranged attacks far superior to any melee attacks? "Hey, look, he's off-balance! Hmmm...I *could* just fry him from here, but he said mean things about my mother, so, instead of using my powerful attack, I will instead close and use an ineffective ability...

    Are scry durations too short?

This can easily be solved by changing the description/flavor text of Scry. Instead of "You watch the subject", make it "You may specify a particular moment in a person's life to watch", and make it two skill checks: The first is History, to see if you can "Tune in" at all, and the DC should be...

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

I do not thing 4e require minis any more than 3e did. Take that as thou wilt. :)

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

And WOTC listened. Good for them. There are times when you need to stick to your guns -- when you have A Vision, and you will not be dissuaded by naysayers. Then there's times when you have an idea which sounds really neat in the echo chamber but which turns out to not work in the Real World...

    Only Five Races in PHB2?

I can definitely live with "only" five more races, esp. if two of them are "Gnome" and "Half-Orc". It's a LOT easier for me to integrate new classes into the world than new races. After all, it's pretty easy to say that the NPC who used to be Rogue with a rapier is now a Swashbuckler and...

    Are scry durations too short?

Which leads to the problem of "Why not just use a Streetwise check?" (Or some other skill which you'll have at a huge bonus by the time you're ready to use scry?) I really see the issue here from all sides. I understand that no one wants a "Screw Plot" spell in the game -- not even players, if...

    Are scry durations too short?

"He's in a cave. You get a very nice look at some very boring sandstone. You see him reading a book, maybe it's the Koran, you're not sure. Another old man in a beard comes in and begins to talk to him. Vision ends. Wanna pay another 100K gold?"

    Are scry durations too short?

Isn't there also a ritual which lets you fool scryers? So if you see "the perfect moment" twice or more, you might begin to suspect someone is pulling your leg... Yeah, Deceive Sensor. Given that it lasts 24 hours and scrying lasts only a few rounds...of course, again, you won't spend 45K gold...

    Are scry durations too short?

Carry that logic far enough, though, and you might as well create a ritual called Reveal Plot Point, the material component of which is a large pizza, given to the DM. :) A large part of making the game fun is making it *seem* believable, and that means not drawing back the curtain to reveal...

    Are scry durations too short?

I have to wonder what kind of games other have in 3x... I got scry a little while ago. Oh boy, I said! I can use this horribly broken spell and ruin all my DMs plots! Bwahaha! Not so much. First, we rarely had more than a name for an enemy. We certainly didn't have their hair or know them...

    New Rituaaaals

Some campaign are more fragile than others. Given the (proposed) limits on preparing rituals, I do not see any serious issues. There's a big difference between "I can spend x thousand gold to do something", and "I can memorize invisibility five times, since I don't have any other second level...

    New Rituaaaals

Yeah...and if you have to know ahead of time you'll want the effect, and pay the gold for it, and if it turns out you don't want it...oh well.

WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD

Or, it's a way to keep people from having to lug around multiple books, especially when many small details of the rules are changed to fit a setting.
