D&D 4E Notes from the 4E Corebooks: Alignment, Monsters, Artifacts and More

Heh. I remember when the article about templates came out, and I suggested that there might be a vampire creating ritual. Nice to see that I was right. Although naturally, I imagine the prayer to Orcus is gonna be houseruled out most of the time (IMO, it shouldn't have been there to begin with)...

    Paladins and alignment

Look at it this way. Exactly how many Prestige Classes and rules were there which allowed for Paladin versions of other alignments? Blackguard, Holy Liberator, etc. Is it really necessary to have two-dozen different Prestige Classes when one class can easily cover all of that? Wouldn't it be...

    Multiclass Combos

    I'd like to do a Paladin/Cleric or Paladin/Warlord multiclass. Swordmage/Wizard is a definite must.

    Paladins and alignment

Intimidate appears to be a Class Skill for Paladins, now. Say hello to Paladin Jack Bauer.

Are there too few known encounter powers?

Bear in mind that those were Channel Divinity Feats. If the Cleric uses one Channel Divinity ability then he can't use any others in the same Encounter. So those Clerics didn't actually gain additional Encounter abilities. Just a different way of using a preexisting Encounter Power.

    The new point-buy?

Trust me. There are plenty of gamers who're willing to make those kinds of sacrifices just for a couple of points. I know a guy in one game of GURPS, for instance, who got five measly points after he made his character a eunuch!

Is it time for a new setting?

    Tyr-Tymora-Helm debacle.

Lay on hands: At will, once per day?!?

Healing Hands is listed just below the word 'Feat', so yep, it's a Feat. :) Good point, there. MAD isn't really MAD unless it's mutual. ;)

Is it time for a new setting?

I voted no. I want to see some of the old settings converted to 4E before a new one comes out. Especially those settings which aren't run-of-the-mill D&D settings, like Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Planescape, and Spelljammer.

Lay on hands: At will, once per day?!?

The damage from Holy Strike and Radiant Strike also appears to be tied to Wisdom. I was hoping to see the Paladin's MAD getting reduced, but they probably wanted Paladins to still have a use for Wis. Still, I'm not to keen on still having to rely on three stats at least (Str, Wis, and Cha)...

Lay on hands: At will, once per day?!?

Lay on Hands can be used a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier. So if your Wisdom is 18, you can use it 4 times per day. It's listed as an At-Will power because you can use it whenever you like. If you wanted to, your Wis 18 Paladin could use it 4 times in a single Encounter.

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

Rangers appear to get six. Riardon, the Eladrin Ranger has Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Nature, Perception, and Stealth as Trained Skills. My guess, though, is that it's just an error on that character sheet. Seems odd that Fighters would be the one and only class with an odd number of...

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

I think that may simply be an error. They may've intended to give the Fighter an extra language but left it off, for instance. In addition, it contradicts Kathra, who does have four Trained Skills. Also seems odd that every other class gets four Trained Skills (Except for the Ranger and Rogue...

    D&D 4E 4e: Death of the Bildungsroman

One can only imagine how those Harry Potter novels would've gone if Harry suddenly couldn't cast any more spells for the rest of the day because he'd already used Expelliarmus twice. ;)

    Stirge Art

Man, I hated Stirges in the old Pool of Radiance game. Little bastards were near impossible to hit.

They screwed up the monster XP table. They switched the values for Minions and Standard Monsters.

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

Chris Sims said on another thread that all NPC's get a number of Healing Surges per day (and that that number is in excess of one).

    Monk = __________ Striker

Agreed. I've been thinking that making the Monk a Divine Striker would be a good idea. Besides, with the talk about a Divine Controller, I think it'd be great to have a party which consists of members of a religious order (With a Paladin, Cleric, Monk, and Priest). Barring that, Ki Striker...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

Wizards have four Trained Skills. That one has five because he's a Human, and Humans get a bonus Trained Skill. Edit: DAMN YOU, JONES!
