What types of D&D books do you want to see?

I would like to see a book of rule varients (ala Unearthed Arcana) dealing with different styles of campaigns. For example running a low magic game, running a mythic (not necessarily high magic) game, running a pulp game, etc.

1 year of 3.5e...How has the conversion gone?

3.5 has been out for about a year now. How has the conversion gone? Have you found your game vastly improved with 3.5? Disappointeded with 3.5? Or are you one of the odd ones (like myself) who refuse to pay any more money for a new edition and have stuck with 3.0? I'm just a little curious.

What did you do with your 3.0 PHB/DMG/MM when you updated to 3.5?

I'm still using 3.0, and I don't see any point to switch to 3.5. Why should I pay $90+ for "updated" versions of books I already have?

why the attraction to "low magic"?

I prefer low magic because it gives the campaign a sense of mystery, and emulates the myths and stories that I grew up with. When magic becomes too common, it becomes simply another technology. I've seen campaigns where the prevalence of magic got to the point of being silly. Not that such...

Do you allow resurrection-type magic in your campaign?

I never liked ressurection spells. They are way too tied to metagame concepts. From my experience, campaigns with a good amount of ressurection magic tend to lead to extreme metagame thinking. The worst example was when I heard of players resorting to suicide tactics because they could be...

How to ruin a campaign? ;)

Apparently some people don't recognize this attempt at a humorous troll as such. :D Rest assured, I don't plan on joining any of your games just to disrupt them (at least not now! :D ) No, I'm not currently planning to disrupt any games at the moment. As for the story behind the post - I...

How to ruin a campaign? ;)

Has your DM ever insisted on playing a campaign that you and the players were completely uniterested in? Did he want to play a dark and moody campaign when you were just wanting hack 'n slash action? Well I'm looking for info on how to completely break such campaigns. A chance for all the...

D&D 4E When do you think 4E will be released?

Given that 3.5e was released less than 3 years after 3e, I'd say that 4e will probably be released sometime in 2006. (The big anouncement will probably be at GenCon 2005). WotC's marketing paradigm seems to be a new edition every few years, so I won't be surprised if 4e is released sometime soon.

    d6 the future of d20?

Well from my experience d6 seemed fairly cinematic. Characters could do just about anything. This was because (as I stated previously) all skills default to the relevant attribute. If you have a high score in an attribute you are automatically very proficient in any skill falling under the...

    d6 the future of d20?

I never liked the d6 system. Essentially it is a die pool system. This means that characters with high skills roll buckets of dice. Some people really like it because it is fairly cinematic - all skills default to the attribute upon which they are based (so if you have a high sttribute you...

    The bring back Birthright thread!

I really liked Birthright. I never cared to much for all the political intrigue, but it was a great setting. It was Euro-fantasy, but done different. Halflings were connected to the plane of shadow (very fey like), not cute hobbits. Elves were xenophobic and strongly anti-human. Magic was...

    Spacing - 3.0 vs. 3.5 versions

I hate the new square spacing rules! Suddenly ogres and large creatures threaten a much larger area. Then when having to fight in a confined space, you have to use the "squeezing" rules. Also the new spacing rules assume that all long creatures fight coiled up.

    Any 3.0 diehards out there?

Yes, I was talking about the every creature taking up a square base. Although it makes sense from a pure wargame standpoint, it introduces a lot of problems IMHO. Now many monsters are able to threaten a much wider area. It also introduces a lot of problems when fighting in tight areas...

    Any 3.0 diehards out there?

You can count me as a 3.0 diehard. The release of 3.5e nearly killed D&D for me. The same goes with people I play with. To keep peace on the boards I have restrained myself from using "3.$e" and making random negative comments about 3.5e. Still I have a burning hatred for 3.5e. Why this...

    Five Pointed Alignment System

It sounds interesting! I've always thought D&D's Law vs. Chaos and Good vs. Evil axes a little "unrealistic". However, it seems a little too much based on Magic: the Gathering for me. Maybe you could have different alignment traits that would correspond to the colors.

Which 3.5 class do you think is the weakest?

The wizard! Whereas all the other classes got a power-up in the conversion, the wizard got a power-down. All the spells have been seriously nerfed! (eg. haste and the "buff" spells.)

About to start Darksun - What have been your experiences with it?

I really enjoyed the setting, but I have yet to see a decent conversion to 3e. One of best things about the Dark Sun setting was its uniqueness; most conversions that I've seen try to stick to the letter of the 3.x rules, rather than the flavor of the setting. The athas.org official netbook's...

    Geriatric Grumbling

More Mature? It depends on what is meant by "mature". I have heard the word mature used to describe two different gaming styles: 1. The use of graphic violence, gratuitous language, and an inordinate amount of perverse sex. 2. A depressing, angst ridden game that focuses on inner turmoil and...

Anyone else overall disappointed by D&D books?

I know the feeling! I've been disappointed by a lot of official D&D products recently, especially most of the 3.5e stuff. That's one reason why I've curtailed my RPG purchases lately.

    Define some genres

I've been working on a homebrew campaign for some time. The campaign is pulp/sci-fi and a genre that I call GAS-PUNK. GAS-PUNK is essentially steampunk with the pseudo-technological timeline moved foward about 30 or 40 years. Imagine all the fantastic inventions of steampunk powered by the...
