    MorningStar-First Thoughts

They are not "missing vowels", rather they contain consonant clusters not allowed by the rules of English. Many languages allow consonant clusters that you can't have in English. For example, in Greek the "p" at the beginning of words such as "psychology" and "pneumonia" is actually pronounced.

Eden Studios' Fields of Blood... is it good?

I suppose I should have said that Cry Havoc Unit Combat system does not support larger battles. While there is an army combat system for large battles, it is rather abstract and handles the entire battle with a few simple roles. Well, to each his own. Personally I prefer strategic wargame...

Eden Studios' Fields of Blood... is it good?

I just picked up a copy yesterday. I haven't had time to digest it yet, but I have skimmed through it. Overall it looks very good. The rules cover, not only mass combat, but also running kingdoms and raising armies. On the plus side the mass combat rules support armies of thousands (Cry...

    Which d20 Superhero System?

I've recently gotten into the mood for some superhero action. I've seen a variety of d20 superhero systems recently such as Mutants and Masterminds and EnWorld's own Four Color to Fantasy I'm looking for the d20 superhero system that's right for me and my group. First and foremost I'm looking...

    Looking for a new world.

The problem with Midnight, is that it is really different from standard D&D. It is low magic (obviously since magic users are hunted down) but the grim and gritty feel is very different from standard D&D which tends to be heroic. I would personally recommend Kingdoms of Kalamar. Although, KoK...

    Straight Dope on Eberron . . .

I suppose a lot of it has to do with those who vote with their dollars. Sure a lot of fans (myself included) talk about "low magic" settings, but overall they compose a small, but vocal minority. If you look at what sells, you'll see that the top selling products are the ones that feature high...

[nostalgia] Looking back at the stupid crap we used to do

I have lots of memories of cheesy campaigns I played in or ran when I was younger. However, nothing will compare to the horrible GURPS cyberpunk campaign I ran in high school. I created this campaign in the middle of my anime & Final Fantasy craze. So the plot was completely ripped of a...

Lets Talk Midnight! [ Jerod Please Stay Out ]

From what I've seen of Midnight, it doesn't appeal to me too much. It seems a little too dark for my tastes. However, I guess that the level of darkness depends on the DM.

D&D Miniatures - Thumbs up or down?

Well, for me part of the fun is painting miniatures. I can't imagine a company charging 24.99 for a single figure, even if they are painted. Most good Reaper minis are only about $3 (although unpainted). The biggest beef for me is the random packaging. Some people like the idea of random...

    PRC Burnout (poll)

I love prestige classes! They allow options for players wanting to create original characters without increasing the number of core classes. Prestige classes are so much better than the horrible 2e kits (which were all either underpowered or overpowered). I don't mind the glut of prestige...

Rate the stereotype - do you raid dungeons?

Well, my group pretty much raids dungeons all the time. At first I tried to have detailed plots, epic stories, and a lot of realistic role-playing. The players hated it. Then I realized that they enjoyed the "kick in the door" style of play. I adjusted my DMing accordingly.

What are the pros and cons of the different campaign settings?

Well, I'll chime in with the settings that I'm familiar with: Forgotten Realms Pros: -Detailed world -Lots of supplements -High magic (could also be a con) Cons: -Little internal consistency (Has a patchwork feel) -A lot of uber-NPCs running around -A lot of...

Lawful Evil CEO, Lawyer, or Politician?

Sorry to beat a dead horse by bringing up an alignment thread once again, but I've been thinking of what evil alignments mean in the D&D game. The PHB seems to imply that evil characters are all murderous villains (with varying degrees of honor). However, I've been wondering if an evil...

Which of WotC's 2004 D&D sourcebooks are you currently planning to buy?

I won't be buying any of them. Right now, I have way to much rpg stuff, I need to end up using the stuff I have before buying more. Besides, I'm not buying anymore WotC stuff ever since their quality has gone downhill (eg 3.5e). Some of the stuff sounds cool, though. Races of Stone sounds...

    Why Planescape?

I could never get into Planescape. Essentially, I thought that it was just too weird. The whole planar concept in itself was a little complicated, but Planescape was downright surreal. The three things that turned me off about the setting (besides the overall bizareness) were the fiends, the...

    3.0 facing vs 3.5 facing

The problem is long creatures. I suppose, it makes sense for a snake to be coiled up, but what about a giant centapede? Another problem with 3.5e facings, is that they assume that creatures wheel around so much in combat that the area occupied is essentially reduced to a square. This isn't a...

    3.0 facing vs 3.5 facing

Ughh...I HATE the 3.5 facing rules. It's absurd to assume that every creature occupies a square area. How does a giant centepede or meglapede occupy a square area? The 3.0 rules made much more sense!

    No Common Language - comments?

As a linguistics major, I hate the idea of a common tongue. Even in todays world of telecommunications and the internet, their is hardly a "common" tongue. As a result, my homebrew world has no common tongue. Each region has its own language. The closest thing to a "common tongue" is a dead...
