    My SCL first impressions

Sure, of course. There are also, naturally, budget concerns with prolonging a development cycle or starting it later. Yet there are two distinct philosophies in videogame development at the moment: 1) Take your time and get it right, and 2) Let's get it out the door so we can strike while the...

My Sword Coast Legends First Impressions

One reason is because a video game like this takes 3-5 years to make, and they didn't have the completed ruleset to build the game with. Baldur's Gate came years after the 2e rules had been released. If WotC had done a 100% in-house design rather than a playtest, their software developers could...

What's a Freelance RPG Writer Worth?

Both parts are true. However, this hobby in particular seems to have a notoriously thrifty consumer mindset once we delve out of the miniature gaming section. I hope things are slowly changing with all of the kickstarters etc. though, because the industry needs to increase the profits in order...

D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss - Madness! Insanity! What Works/Doesn't? What Was Hilarious/Tragic?

Roleplaying mental illnesses isn't for everyone, sure, but I can see how it might be interesting to try with people who are comfortable doing so. Should be fairly quick to find out if the group wants to do it, by asking before agreeing to implement it.

Salvatore, Perkins, & Mearls on Drizzt in RAGE OF DEMONS

Me too! Perked up from my sleepy morning screen-glaring when Salvatore pronounced it like that. :)

Welcome to the EN World D&D Adventurers League Forum!

Excellent! There are some helpful DM help threads for the Tyranny storylines which might be good to move? Perhaps some similar for PotA too (unsure).

D&D 5E (2014) [Poll] How does your group do hit points per level?

Yes very true. Yet many rolling d10 (or even d8) opts to stop at a 4 because the fear of getting something lower plays in too, and statistics are still just statistics. There is no guarentee of a better outcome even if the odds are in favor of it. I'd argue that the fighter rolling a 5 in your...

D&D 5E (2014) [Poll] How does your group do hit points per level?

A player can roll or take the average, BUT... we use a "greed principle" if the player chooses to roll. It works like this: At level 1, everyone gets max HP. At level 2, each player must decide on either using average for the entire campaign, or rolling for the entire campaign. As for the...

D&D 5E (2014) Question about Fantasy Grounds and pricing

Aha, very cool. And if I buy the monthly pass and decide to get the ultimate license, do I own said license forever (or as long as the hosting company is around at least ;))?

D&D 5E (2014) Question about Fantasy Grounds and pricing

Hoping someone can help me. A few of my players have looked at Fantasy Grounds for playing the official 5e modules. I have a few questions about pricing though... If I buy an "ultimate license" is that it? No other annual or monthly fees? Do I have to buy the D&D Core Classes for $50 and...

Double Digital D&D Delights! GOG.com has new goodies & a new sale!

Wanted to update after reminiscing some more: The best AD&D game I played pre-Baldur's Gate was Dark Sun: Shattered Lands. It was a blast. :-) Eye of the Beholder games close second. Lands of Lore felt like a D&D game too (EoB clone), and was excellent too.

Awesome! Eye of the Beholder games are my thing! :-D Loving the new Grimrock games too (spiritual successors with modern graphics).

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

Just want to quickly throw in that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this civil and fascinating thread. Good job, everyone! :)

D&D 5E (2014) So, is anyone playing 5e in Storyline Mode?

We are running a Tyranny campaign but based on the Expedtitions modules. They are very fun thus far! (We are about halfway through). Will be doing a homebrew next for my "own" group, and running Abyss expeditions for organized play.
