    D&D 5E (2014) Gaining Experience

I'm guessing quick decisions by players and no miniatures as the main reasons for combats going fast. It is for us, at least. As GM, you need to step in when players experience "analysis paralysis". I do it by saying "Player X, you're up, and Player Y, you're next" when we go through the turns...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gaining Experience

We use theatre of the mind, and we rarely - if ever - spend more than 10-20 minutes on a given fight in 5e. Then again, I have only played till about level 5, and I would assume the fights go a little longer at higher levels with more options coming into play. Do you use miniatures by any...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gaining Experience

Tons and tons of videogames encourage getting XP for grinding monsters (I just played through Divinity: Original Sin, and cleared the maps fully to get more XP for example). That said, I prefer games without as well, as that takes away most murder-hobo tendencies. :-)

D&D 5E (2014) What awesome thing happened in your game recently?

This is a follow up, which I edited into the original post afterwards for clarity. :-) A very long story, but the short version is: The dragon was a silver dragon - the king of dragons, in fact - which had been possessed by an evil bastard. Dragons vanished from the players' own world a long...

D&D 5E (2014) What awesome thing happened in your game recently?

Pathfinder, I'm the GM. 1½ years of playing a large portion of a bi-weekly campaign just wrapped up with the group's first true dragon showdown (a great wyrm). After defeating three liches, the group came out of a cave having spent quite a few resources but ready to face the dragon. The dragon...

    EN World EN5ider Has Launched!

CITY OF BRASS - the Web-Based RPG App Kickstarter Launches!

Looks interesting, but I'm not interested in a subscription app. I want the thing without monthly/yearly payments. Good luck to the kickstarter though!

Book of Lost Spells On Sale Now

Holy crap that's a lot of new spells! Makes me curious about game balance, but I'm looking forward to reading through it at some point. Anyone notice power creep when compared to the PHB? Some commented in this thread about the spells being fairly low-power, which I take as an encouraging sign...

March Fo(ur)rth Tomorrow For GM's Day; But The Sales Start Today!

Any of the new Frog God 5e products on discount anywhere? Oh, and in case anyone hasn't seen it, there are some cool halfsies dice being made through Kickstarter, so maybe today is a good day to pledge? :-) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwrot/halfsies-dice

D&D 5E (2014) How often do you play?

I game a lot. Made a promise to myself to game more as a new year's resolution in 2013. Having had a baby actually helped with this, as I've cut back on work and my wife's maternity leave has been awesome. :) Number of players below includes the GM. Notice that the groups are relatively large...

D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Games--What do you want us to make next?

I concur. Phandelver was a great adventure. Hit the sweet spot for length and opportunities for the players, and never felt like a direct railroad. Softcover is fine by me - as others have said, I rarely run the same adventure multiple times either. Price it around 15-25 dollars and put in a few...

    Greg Tito Is UHURA!

EDIT: Oops, saw Morrus's reprimand on page 2 after I posted. I'll just say that the decision to hire this man seems strange.

Against the Slave Lords – Fanning the Flames of the OSR Revolution!

Nice review. :-) Anyone get the chance to run this for 5e yet? I am considering getting it for my 5e group, but I know there has been a lot of changes from DNDNext compatability to 5e's release version.

D&D 5E (2014) Crafting Scrolls and Brewing Potions

That's one problem that is instantly fixed by changing the levelling process from gaining XP by killing things, to gaining levels by accomplishing things. In the xp-leads-to-levelling gaming, it almost becomes a videogame. "Gotta kill everything for bags of XP". I've also found that it makes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Old Edition "Keepers" (Books)

My absolute favorite book is the old hardcover "Forgotten Realms Adventures" (the one with a rider on a unicorn on the cover). The city maps for all the major towns of the Heartlands, and the hundreds of cool plot ideas to pick and choose from and adapt to other campaigns has been helping me GM...

D&D 5E (2014) Casting spells with costed components

How about a case like "Protection from Evil and Good". Says you need to use holy water or ground powdered silver, but doesn't annotate the cost. Should we assume that this spell costs 25g to cast (what Holy Water costs in the PHB?), or is it free to cast because the price isn't mentioned...

D&D 5E (2014) When do you expect that we will start seeing the 2nd printings of the 3 core books?

Starter box doesn't have a lot of errors. It's a remarkably good product actually, and the price is great too!
