I house ruled the Protection and Magic Circle spells to grant SR against charms, compultions, and summoned creatures equal to 12+caster level (max SR 17 for the protections spells, max SR 22 for the Magic circle spells) instead of automatic supprestion.

Cheapest way for casters to improve their AC

The fullblade-wielding fighter in my game has taken cross-class skill ranks in Use Magic Device for the primary purpose of using a wand of shield Another solution is to use a ring of spell storing so that the wizard/sorceror can cast shield into it, then transfer it to another character who...

    How Does Point Buy Work?

The point buy method is described on pg. 169 of the 3.5 Dungeon Masters Guide. But it is not in the SRD.

Cheapest way for casters to improve their AC

Right. Normally I would rely on mage armor for my armor bonus then get bracers at +4 or +5. But even lower AC bracers are good against ambushes outside of your adventuring window.

No. This was in the 3.0 rules and removed in 3.5.

    Herbalists and Craft(Brew Potion) Questions

The rules intentionally deempasize the details of potion and magic item creation so that the game focuses on the game and the action, and makes it so that players aren't motivated to have their PCs be travelling butchers and herb harvesters instead of heroes. As for more information, check the...

    casting from a spellbook

Hm. I haven't considered that. [Considering...] I will probably have to change how the BBB works.

    ninja, sudden strike and strategy

Nope. Since the word "invisibility" is not italisized, which in D&D means that it is based on the spell, it will default to the core definition of invisibility.

    casting from a spellbook

Behold my house rule: Wizard spell books are actually compilations of magical scrolls. Use the scroll scribing rules for adding new spells for your spell book. You can study the spell book or any scroll to prepare a spell and cast it at your casting level, or you can cast it as a scroll (which...

Specialist wizards, which two schools do you give up?

It's more about "need" than "like". High level combats against NPCs tend to be dispel magic wars. You need to crack the bad guys' shells so that the fighter's sword can reach the creamy nougat center of the bad guy. And if you know the bad guys are going to toss Modenkainen's funkiller on you...

And we're going to get there how?

As someone who has played in a couple of campaigns based on a faraway goal, it is frustrating to be forced to deal with stuff that is not directly involved in advancing us toward that goal. I had the attitude of "we need to stop screwing around and get on with the job we chose to accept! Focus...

    The Mechanics of Readied Actions

Athough casting a spell with no components (or casting a spell-like ability) may lack the normal cues needed to identify spellcasting, the act does provoke an attack of opportunity. I would infer that such casting would be noticable to anyone as the caster dropping their guard for a moment...
