D&D 4E No more reprints of the 4E core books?

I'd be willing to give it for the supple wrist alone.

    D&D Novels

I'll second this. Although Dragonlance isn't around in RPG form right now, the novels are still great. Anything by Weis and Hickman gets my seal of approval. I've also been a fan of the Keith Baker Eberron novels. I'm thinking about picking up the new Kemp FR omnibus that's out, the Everis...

What's the most epic boss fight you've ever had?

I wound up running a heroic-tier fight that was a nail biter the entire way through. There was a Necromancer (Wizard with the Death Master template) completing a ritual in knee-deep bones while channelling dark energy from four orbs in the room. Each orb granted a different bonus, one...

Do we want one dominant game, and why?

As a gamer, I prefer to have multiple systems competing for my dollars. It leads to better products.

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

DC Adventures is, as directly stated by Green Ronin, a truly independent system, spurred by a change in the d20 market. As for the OGL petering out, examine the number of OGL products released over the past year, and compare them to the number of products released in 2005. The products...

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

I know. What I'm getting at is it wasn't released under the OGL while WotC was making d20 books, the heyday of the OGL. I really don't think Pathfinder would have the steam it does if there was an OGL for 4e in the same way.

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

Mutants and Masterminds was certainly a d20 product, albeit a heavily modified one. If it wasn't for the OGL and the development of the d20 system, it never would have seen the light of day. Read the design articles Green Ronin has on their website about it. There's an entire thing about no...

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

And without 4e and the decision not to keep the OGL going, neither would be around. The developers for DC Adventures have specifically stated that they've dropped any baggage from the d20 system that is only there to make it d20. There's no need to identify with the system anymore, so they can...

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

This is how I see it. With the dissolving of a current OGL, other companies have had to step up to the plate with their design, and we're seeing some really top-notch products being released. Companies aren't obsessed with shoehorning everything into the d20 mold, and by making their products...

What's the best system to use?

For what you're describing with anime-style martial arts, check out Arcane Background: Superpowers as is listed in the SW core book, and get creative with your trappings. Suddenly, the Bolt power becomes "My character punches the ground and sends a shockwave to my target", the Speed power...

    Deadlands & Earthdawn

It's also worth mentioning that soon, I'm not sure when, Pinnacle will be re-releasing Deadlands Reloaded with some updates, erratta, and splitting it into two books, a Player's Guide and Marshall's Handbook. Interviews say there's a little bit of new content, but not a huge amount. The new...

    Deadlands & Earthdawn

I've been running Deadlands for a very long time, and am about to begin their plot point campaign "The Flood." I'm a huge fan of the game, and the system it's current incarnation uses (Savage Worlds). If you're accustomed to a D&D mindframe when it comes to mechanics, you need to reject a lot...

[4e] Would Star Pact Warlocks be Opposed to Psionics?

It's never expressly stated that star pact warlocks have anything to do with the far realm, instead making pacts with various stars and beings in the heavens. It's implied that it's far-realm territory, but not stated. I'd guess that would be a campaign specific thing. Napalm was created to...

A Concern About Wizard's Race Designs of Late

I just can't figure out if I think shardminds are really lame or really cool. I think they may be both. On the main note though, it's only sensical that as the game expands, the options released move from general and obvious (Fighter and Dwarf) to niche and odd (Battlemind and Wilden). The...

    Paladin vs. Beholder

Also, if a paladin fails to engage a foe for a round, the mark vanishes. Fly the beholder six squares up, so he's out of the range of the mark and out of melee with the paladin, and watch as the mark evaporates. Provided the paladin can't pull off a ranged attack. In addition, remember that...

WotC and brick and mortar retail stores - Greg Leeds weighs in

This is an argument I've seen multiple times by different stores. Before I moved, there was a FLGS who ran events, was enthusiastic about 4e, and got people into the store to play. I bought books from this store, even though it's cheaper to do it online. Now, the FLGS grumbles about 4e, refuses...

Good rewards and penalties for winning or losing a skill challenge

I'm currently running a sandbox game, where I ran a skill challenge to find the location of a necromancer who was kidnapping and murdering villagers. If they succeed, they find his evil lair. If they fail, the necromancer catches wind of the investigation and moves on, to be encountered later...

Players dissatisfied with level of danger in 4e

PC's also fear monsters more if they take advantage of Coup de Grace attacks. Even if it doesn't kill a character outright, it will put the fear of death in them. If you've seen an orc take a swing at a fallen ally once, you heal your wounded, regardless of how many or few encounters you've...
