    DDI September/October Update info

I'm hoping for traps and terrain in the compendium. That's still my biggest hangup about DDI.

Games that are more fun to read than to play

I'll go on a limb and say Pathfinder. Not because it's a bad game, but because the world supplements and adventures are such damn entertaining reads.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for 4.5e?

The only thing that's really "changed" though is the two martial classes, and even they didn't change nearly as much as people are thinking. They lost dailies, have compulsory encounters they choose, and different at-will powers. Warpriest and Mage are hardly different from the existing...

The return of Illumians -- sort of

Hmm, I thought taking 10 was too. Silly me.

The return of Illumians -- sort of

I just noticed the syllable of soul references taking 10. Last I checked that's not a 4e rule. I mean, I know what it means, and I don't think there will be any confusion, but I did notice it.

    Good rule of thumb

And for that matter, what about those people who have been here a while, but just don't post much? When I was a young boy, my mother told me that if I had nothing nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all.

    Instant Friends

Well, there's those who took Evocation as a barred school back in the day. Like I did every time. And nearly every one of my players did too. But that's just anecdotal. Truth be told, if you've got a DM that will rule against you because you took the last slice of pizza, you've got bigger...

D&D 4E In D&D 4e, is there any ability by Enemies that will silence a caster?

Even in the event there was, at the most I'd give a penalty to attack rolls with Implement powers instead of flat-out disallowing them. This way it's more difficult to cast a spell, but you're not useless.

Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

We can't even say that. We can say that during the indicated time frame, Amazon sold more copies of Pathfinder than the 4e PhB. We have no reference as to how many were sold in that month, how many were sold in the previous month, or how many were sold in other sales channels. The fact that...

I need to play D&D. What's my system, what's my campaign setting?

I'm going to fourth Savage Worlds. It's a ton of fun.

Everything I need to know, I learned from D&D

Nothing has sword to the face resistance, the sledgehammer approach always works.

If they've had one delay in over two years of operation, I think I'll cut them some slack.

Unusual setting you'd love to see?

That's the idea, but without the jokes. Steampunk is really popular right now, and I'd like to see WotC tap into it.

As a side note, the ritual states that the creature treats you as a close friend for the duration, but says nothing about your allies. And for that matter, even if you could turn Orcus into your friend, would you really want to?

Against the Cult of the Reptile Gods -- FREE?

Oh God I hope so. If they start doing classic modules in dungeon... I'll be happier than a pig in crap, that's for sure.

Unusual setting you'd love to see?

I'd like to see WotC make an actual, no-joke steampunk setting. Guns and all. It's different, it's popular, and it's ripe and ready with ideas.

How do you handle players who arrive late and players who leave early?

Umm, I've always lived under the philosophy that real life takes priority over gaming. Occasionally, things happen and players are absent, sometimes even the DM is absent. Part of being an adult involves responsibilities that are far greater than any given game session. Also, as the DM, I'm...

    Instant Friends

Just as a random thought, yes this could bypass a skill challenge. It would also bypass the XP that the skill challenge would garner. It's been my experience that players will bend over backwards for additional XP, and refuse to give up said XP whenever they can avoid it. I remember plenty of...

Black Diamond Games Blog - An Experiment

I also think that a good chunk of the results might be based on price point. If I didn't already own the book, and somebody offered me a trade-in of my 4e PhB for 50% off Pathfinder, I'd take it in a second, if for no other reason than the high price tag on the Pathfinder core rulebook. Note...
