    M. Night Shyamalan

I believe it's been revealed this was a less than factual show, there were some facts, some stuff made up, and it's simply intended to look like a real documentary. Check out: http://apnews1.iwon.com/article/20040717/D83SIL481.html

What to do when players surprise you

I always liked the way they did naming in Legend of Five Rings. The emperors are one letter off the word for pervert. The all female unit was named after obsessed fanboys. Well, who knows if that's how it would work. Two people are seeing the chance for rank and power, another one is seeing...

What to do when players surprise you

Certainly there is a link there. The mirror is not a small hand mirror. To be more precise, it's about coffee table sized and shaped. Most of the table is magical obsidian (According to legend when Lord Moon's blood fell to earth, it dried as obsidian.) The silvery sheen in a disk on the top...

What to do when players surprise you

It wasn't exactly a surprise "He'll never see this coming." thing. The character forgot she was being stalked by a ninja and walked off from the group to try a sending. When the attack came, she simply ran back inside and the group reacted fast enough to grab on. As did Hantei XVI, though to...

What to do when players surprise you

Backstory. The PC were sent to the realm of slaughter (Toshigoku, for those keeping trasck at home) to recover and artifact of a fallen god. The realm of slaughter is a place Rokugani souls go when they have commited too many atrocities for them to be allowed to reincarnate. The artifact is in...

Ever kill a familiar? I did.

Hmm..not killed a familiar..yet. One PC in my group uses a thrush familiar to scout (which thus far has been pretty safe. Only shot at once, during the time a bounty was being awarded for all birds that were killed in that area). But when the familiar flies into combat with the area of...

Your biggest screw-up as a DM?

My personal mistakes are many and varied, lord knows. Toward the top of the list might be running a Rokugan Game while allowing Forgotten Realms characters, or at least how I implimented this idea. In a more specific sense, I'd have to say a battle that was run to capture the group. The set...

Your biggest screw-up as a DM?

Personally I love Blue Booking but it really only works for between sessions stuff or stuff in the background that once again can be written up between sessions. Email works very well for this now.

    Banish and Dismiss

Yes, the wording is a little unclear. Banish says it works as a more powerful dismiss. But the wording doesn't exactly match up. So far it seems pretty clear Dismiss would work to send someone home ( with the 20% chance to miss the plane totally, and no good idea where you would end up). But...

    Banish and Dismiss

Silly as this sounds. Let's say you are on another plane, not your home plan. And you can cast banish. Can you banish yourself back to your home plane?

    Questions on Reduce Person

Reduce Person is a spell that only works on humanoids, this much is clear. But they give the example of a large humanoid. Leaving out the Enlarge spell, is there a large humanoid out there? I've browsed the Monster Manuel but no luck so far. In a related question, is there a Reduce spell...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

We could continue to go around and around. But why not for the moment focus on the thing we both agree on.:)

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

The only place the rules say anything about a surprise round with regard to the Iaijutsu duel is in the quote given above by me. This is quite possible. There's no information to contradict it or support it, so it's pretty much up to the GM. It's not like the rules police are coming to either...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

Since IF specifically stacks with SA, it can get pretty nasty pretty fast. A 10th level rogue can do the SA damage of a 20th level rogue, or nearly so, without really minimaxing.

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

Ki Whirlwind is a standard action, and they felt the need to say specificly "But it does work with this." Sadly, they didn't say if it works with a normal Whirlwind attack, that would have been far more revealing. That would be me. Yep, all of which can happen under both our interpretations...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

OA page 81-82. Phase one: Stance (skill check to determine the others skill) Phase Two: Focus (skill check to determine who goes first) Phase Three: Both strike, the order determined by Phase Two. Notice, they are very specific it's at this point the surprise action applies. "The first...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

The rules don't specifically prohibite it. The rules do say it's up to the GM how many free actions can be done per round. So a GM could prohibit this tactic without using house rules, either. In a game that allowed this, I could easily have a 10th level rogue doing +9d6 on average with every...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

Since the rules don't address this particular point, there is nothing to contradict your view. Nor support it. Much in the exact wording of the skill can be made of 'immediately'. Does that mean the first attack, or the whole round? As I said, I don't think the letter of the rules...

A bit of confusion over Iaijutsu focus skill..

PHB, page 98. Under the feat Quickdraw "A character who has selected this feat may throw weapons at his full, normal rate of attack." So, as long as the character has quickdraw, sure. The rules specifically allow for this. This has nothing to do with making multiple IF focus attacks a...

Why is Medieval fantasy the standard?
