Are you glad that Increased Threat Ranges no longer stack?

I think it totally sucks  If my character has Improved Critical with a sword and has a Keen scabbard, then one or the other is useless. Along the same lines: Magic arrows not stacking with magic bows. Yep, it's a Hoover; bigtime sucks.

    ENWorld women

Another female gamer here.... I don't post much, but I do lurk; I suppose that qualifies me. I've been gaming for about 13 years now, and most of that time has been spent with the same bunch of guys. (I've known a couple of other girls who gamed, but they weren't "regulars".) The guys in my...

[OT] Some Interesting Trivia: The Shot Glass

I heard (somewhere, way back when I was still frying my brain) that "sh*t-eating grin" came from a piece of imagery (in literature) in which the Devil "grinned like a fox eating sh*t out of a wire brush". And fnord is a Discordian holy word.

[OT] Share your favorite drink recipes

There's a new kind of Sprite in stores now called Tropical Sprite Remix. It tastes like it's got some pineapple and orange flavor in it, and it's great with rum. It'd probably be good with the coconut rum too. I put a little Midori melon liquer in mine and it was very tasty. (And green!)

    Would This Be Too Much?

Yeah, spell immunity for dragons would be too much. (DM: A red dragon comes flying over the ridge...... Wizard and Sorcerer PCs: We'll just go sit down over there 'til the fighters whack it to death....) Yes, I realize there are more imaginative game-playing opportunities here, but really...

As a DM, do you let PCs precisely "place" areas of effect for spells?

We have a wire hoop that defines the area of effect of a fireball. It's used by both PCs and DM, and it allows for some pretty precise placing of fireball spells. But any PC in melee with someone who's just inside the range gets caught too.

(OT) Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people...

In cases like that, I'm rather fond of bursting into laughter and muttering "Morons!" loud enough to be overheard, while looking at them like they're the funniest thing since Daffy Duck. (Of course, my husband is horrified, and tries to steer me in another direction!)

    The 3.5 Rogue

Here, here! Rolling a d20 every few steps gets real tiresome! Usually, the DM just lets the rogue roll whether there's traps or not, and on a 1, he wipes out!

At what age did you start gaming?

I'm one of the very few 28+ votes. When D&D first came out, I was totally fascinated. But, as a child in rural central Ga., there was just nobody else to game with. So, when I started dating a gamer (many years later), I insisted that he introduce me to his gaming group. I married him, of...

    3e too complicated ?

Complicated? I think 3e is much easier than the previous incarnations. Before 3e, I usually only did Fantasy Hero, and occasionally AD&D or GURPS. 3e is so much more exciting because the rules are clearer and we can stick to the action more, rather than get bogged down in debates.

Exclusive Contest! Todd Lockwood draws your character! [NO MORE ENTRIES!]

Character submission (What a cool thing to do!) Lady Arkanna deValarian: 16th level human sorceress 18 yrs old, 5'5" tall, 115 lbs., shadow-black hair, royal-blue eyes (tilted slightly, like a cat's), aristocratic-looking feature. Very beautiful and charismatic. Arkanna met her current...

    NPCs as Party Members

I've never had a problem with NPCs being regular characters, but I think that says more about the DM than anything else. When I first started playing 3e, the DM felt that we needed a wizard and cleric, which he supplied as NPCs. Since then, another character has a (different) cleric as a...

Alignment again, but with some reality attached

Okay, I'm not feeling deep enough to argue medieval morals/alignments vs. modern. I just want to give my opinion (for whatever it's worth). RPGs are fantasy. The worlds and characters are imaginary. Determining alignment is one of the ways we define the characters we create. Historical...

    'Origin' of Your User Name

A few years ago, I read a fantasy novel called "Gossamer Axe" So when I started looking for a handle, that title came to mind.

Advice needed: Poor DM decision, and something of a eulogy for a beloved character.

That's the ticket! Tell your GM that it wasn't really your character, it was an evil look-a-like from another dimension! Then you can still have your "real" character waiting in the wings (continuing on his personal mission) for you to bring him back.

    What made D&D 'evil'?

There are Christian fundies that believe that any reference to the occult is evil. They've spoken out against D&D for years and, more recently, against the Harry Potter books and movie. There are other fantasy things they've been up in arms about, but, for some reason, not LOTR. (Yes I know...
