    OotS 616

I love the way Rich makes the titles of the strips their own joke, that make no sense until you've read the rest of the strip. Just one more way OotS shows the clever.

    Heroes# 12: Our Father/Dec 2008

Did Pa petrelli say "Now I will HAVE all your powers", or something more like "Now I will TAKE all your powers"? I wasn't paying much attention at that point, and I haven't gone back to re-watch. The whole thing could be explained to an extent. He already had Time Control and Teleportation...

Manual of the Planes Revealed Over on RPG.net

As an unrelated aside...this. Is. Awesome. My daughter is a huge fan of the D&D cartoon. Each new D&D book that I get, her first question is; "Is Venger in this one!?" If I can tell her the Shadow Demon is in Daddy's New Book, that'll be almost as good... As for the planes being less...

    Problem player in my group

I've been in a similar situation (haven't we all?) and one bit of advice that helped our group deal with it was, when you talk to Fred, make sure it's outside the context of the game. Not just before you start playing on Game Night, but in a time and setting completely removed from the game...

    Heroes#10: The Eclipse : Part 1/Nov2008

I think it was the end of last season, but I can' remember for sure. And there's no reason they can't both have the Dreaming power. Which is, apparently, related to the Future Painting power, since the African Painter Guy showed up when Matt jumped into Angela's dream. Which also implies that...

The Druid makes me chew the furniture

I think this has the ring of truth to it. The druid will retain its shapeshifting abilities in the form of specific shapeshifting powers, but I expect the powers will not be "You turn into a bird, so you can fly", but rather a Power that says "You can fly from point A to point B. You do this...

    Heroes # 9: It's Coming/Nov2008

Real answer? He has the Power of Plot, and so they put him where he needed to be in order to set up the cliffhanger. We will likely never, ever see any explanation as to how he knew what was going on or how he got there. I accept Villain Omniscience as a trope of the show, and have moved on...

D&D 4E [4e] Wizard as good as a Fighter in Standard Melee

You could look at this issue a different way, which does a better job of explaining the design philosophy behind 4E, as I understand it. Take a Fighter, with an 18 strength, proficient in a longsword, and put him up against a Wizard, with an 18 intelligence, using an Implement he's proficient...

    Heroes #8: Villains/Nov2008

It occurs to me that this is the second "gimmick" they've used this season to get Maclolm McDowell back as Linderman; first Nathan's "Visions", now this flashback. Not that I'm complaining...Malcolm McDowell is awesome. Just an observation.

HEROES: VILLIANS: Death Pool [Episode 8 SPOILERS]

Pa Petrelli, killed by Sylar in the final episode of the season, to save the rest of the Petrelli family and/or The World, in a last, redemptive act of heroism. See also: Sylar, killed by Pa Petrelli, as he, in turn, is killed in the final episode of the season.

    Heroes #8: Villains/Nov2008

I dunno...I'm with Steel Wind. I kind of liked this episode, all except the very end. I'll get to that in a bit. As for the inconsistencies...I had some nagging doubts all along about how the linderman/Angela/Nathan relationship worked, all the way back from season 1. Linderman was trying to...

    OotS #605 Is Up....

He was named Lord Shojo, I think? I see a great set-up for Belkar's ultimate redemption, and a chance for some genuine character development. Which Belkar will summarily reject, and just go ahead and kill the thieves. Probably with his metaphorical green stick.

    Heroes #7: Eris Quod Sum/Oct 2008

Parkman also does pretty well with a lower special-effects budget. Flight, TK, time-stop, ice-touch, and super-speed? Probably not so much. I was going to say that Elle might be on her way out, too, but they've been doing lightning effects for almost as long as they've put special effects...

    Heroes #7: Eris Quod Sum/Oct 2008

No new episode tonight, then? As for Alexander and Leob getting cut over disputes with NBC over the "creative direction" for the show...I suspect a drastic, precipitous downward spiral of suckage, culminated with the cancellation notice at the end of the season. I could be wrong...maybe this...

    Warlord vs. Str. Cleric

I haven't played a Warlord, yet, but it seems to me that they could really benefit from some kind of 4E variant of the Cohort rules. You can't count on having an ally where you need them, in order to use your powers? Bring along your own ally. Alternately, a brief multiclass dip into Wizard...

    D&D: Cartoon vs. Movie

Yeah, the cartoon is the best, hands-down. It was cheesy, yeah, but in its' defense, it was a product of its' times. Compared to other cartoons that were out in the 80s, it was really a risk-taker. The kids in the D&D Cartoon were put in genuine peril, and had real, emotional reactions to the...

    Draconomicon Excerpts - Brown Dragon

I liked the fluff in this excerpt. In fact, I liked that it had fluff AT ALL. So much better than in the Monster Manual, where you had to either be familiar with a creature beforehand, or try to suss out any interesting bits of fluff from the Lore DC tables. If this is an example, it ought...

    Heroes#6: Dying of the Light/Oct2008

That's a very good point. They've established that is is possible for Sylar to suppress the Hunger part of his powers. Maybe Pa Petrelli's power worked the same way, and he's had years to learn how to control it? So, he gets The Hunger from Pete, says "Oh, this old thing?" and just moves on...

    Heroes#6: Dying of the Light/Oct2008

At first, I thought the whole "drain your power and you crumble into dust" thing was how Pa Petrelli's power worked, and I was shocked the writers would have the stones to have Papa kill Peter off that way. Upon further reflection, that's just the natural reaction that a 1000-year-old man has...

STAR TREK by JJ Abrams - new photos

I am absolutely, completely buying Zach Quinto as a young Spock. I like the other casting, but Spock is dead-on. The bridge looks as if it was the TOS bridge, redesigned by Steve Jobs. I'd be shocked if you can't find an apple logo on it, somehwere, if you look hard enough...
