Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 Starts Tonight!

I thought this was a great episode as well. This is our first real look inside the Fire Nation. The plot (Outsider New Kid moves into repressive school and teaches his fellow students how to live, before moving on) has been done a million times before, but Avatar still manages to put a fresh...

Heroes Season [Volume] 2 (#24)---9/24/07-'Four Months Later'

I just got around to watching this episode that I had Tivo-ed, so now I have to try and catch up with thsi thread. First off...yay, rampant Heroes speculation! How I've missed you...don't ever go away again, do you hear? Second...I think it's possible that the Hatian wiped Peter's mind. But...

Heroes Season [Volume] 2 (#24)---9/24/07-'Four Months Later'

Whee! New Heroes tonight! OK, that's an interesting development. SPECULATION DL Dies, Nathan isn't dead. Judging from nothing else other than who's present/absent in the cast photos...I mean, Sylar and Peter probably aren't dead either, but that's no shocker... /SPECULATION

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 Starts Tonight!

DVR's set here, too. I'll be out at dinner with friends, so I won't get to watch it live. If I didn't have the DVR, I'd be cancelling the dinner plans, or having them over to watch it with me. Yeah, I know...canceling real-world plans for a TV show...I'm not proud, but there it is. ;)

    Looking for Herculiods DVD

Gawd, I LOVED that show... Gloop! Gleep! Igoo! The funky rhino-bug dude...um...in retrospect, it sounds kind of silly, doesn't it? But I've always, always wanted to DM a campaign based on the Hurculoids. No advice as to a DVD set, but I know you can get some episodes and partial episodes...

Some D&D Insider bits (Update 9/13: Lots of new info)

The discussion in this thread makes me wonder about the business model of 4E and the DI (and if this is too far off-topic for this thread, I'll drop it, or start a new one)...are they intending to make their money selling books, with additional income coming in from DI subscriptions, or are they...

Ry's guide to being an Evil Overlord

OK, evil's great, and all, but now you've gone too far... *shudder*

    Formians

Very interesting interpretation of the Formians. Well done! I've not spoken with many gamers that like the formians. They're pretty much ignored in most games I've played in, I think in large part because they seemed to have replaced the Modrons as the primary lawfully-aligned extraplanars in...

    D&D 4E Polymorph in 4E?

<snip> Hmm...you're probably right. You have a spell that can make you big, like a giant, and strong, like a giant, but won't actually make you BECOME (flip to p.37 of the MM and look up stats) a giant. This, more than a list of separate spells for different available forms, keeps things...

    D&D 4E Polymorph in 4E?

Yeah, I can't see that they'll remove Polymorph from the game entirely. They'll be butchering some sacred cows, I'm sure, but this is one that will make it through in some way. There will be some mechanism for a caster to change shape, and they will most likely, for tradition's sake, call it...

The Day the Earth Stood Still remake

Not just any 'alien' movie...a KEANU REEVES 'alien' movie. I will wait to hear more, because it IS an intriguing idea and I'd like to see how the themes are handled in light of today's political climate. But I have my doubts that they will be handled in a respectful way. And if, at any point...

    D&D 4E Polymorph in 4E?

I've heard something to this effect in other venues as well. It seems to imply that monsters will have their own distinct set of abilities; that they wouldn't necessarily have the same feats/special abilities/spell-like abilities that Pcs would. This leads to my question: how do you think the...

What's left of 3e that you want to buy?

I still want to pick up the Draconomicon, Lords of madness, etc. The monster ecology books. I figure they will keep a certain amount of usefulness, even in 4E. While the crunch may become obsolete, they'll still be very cool books.

BEOWULF - a Robert Zemeckis film

What all this uncanny valley stuff proves, to me, is that at some point in our evolutionary history, humanity was faced with an invasion of body-snatching doppelgangers. We developed the Uncanny Valley effect as a defense mechanism, against the alien replicants among us. This Beowulf movie is...

BEOWULF - a Robert Zemeckis film

It's in the eyes, I think. The eyes in this movie look a lot less creepy than they do in Polar Express, and I think it's because in Polar Express, you're looking at kids that, for all that they are in a fantastic setting, are supposed to look like regular kids. Using this kind of CGI to create...

    Ironman leaked footage

... I take back every potentially negative thing I said about the movie when the promo poster came out. I will be there opening night. In costume. ...what? No, I'll grow my goatee out again and put on a suit jacket. Cardboard Iron Man armor, with an LED tap-light taped to the chest? Who...

    Why does D&D have bears?

I ran into a similar problem with a campaign I was working on. My intent was to replace common domesticated animals with domesticated versions of fantastic animals. No horses, but there are sleek, long-legged reptilian creatures with fast land and swim speeds (and stats otherwise very similar...

    Does anyone else miss Avatar?

I think Greg Baldwin actually did voice Iroh in a few episodes...not all the way through, but I recall seeing Iroh credited to both Mako and Baldwin in a couple of episode summaries, I think. And going back to re-watch one of those episodes I couldn't really tell the difference. If I can find...

    The Trouble With Union

I've only used Union once, in a one-off epic game I ran (the only time I've used the epic book, actually...). The only way I was able to make it work for me was to play up the boring aspects of it. It's MEANT to be boring, because the epic folks of the multiverse are tired of having exciting...
