Hatin' the RPGA? (Forked Thread: The real flaw of 3E/3.5E/OGL)

When I started playing D&D (and other RPGs) back in the late 70s, I was lucky enough to have a great and dynamic group of players. We created our own homebrew worlds and tons of houserules, took turns DMing campaigns, and basically wrung every drop of enjoyment out of the game for many, many...

    Dungeon Delve feedback for WotC

Dude, we SO need a Dungeon Delve 2! Shawn (who is not biased in any way)

    Dungeon delve delayed?

It involved acts so despicable that even thinking about posting them here could shake the very pillars of civilization. Let's just say it involved a large amount of alcohol, threats of physical violence, uncontrolled weeping, something about either Britney Spears and/or one or both of the Olsen...

    Dungeon delve delayed?

Well, I know the book is done, because I am looking at it right now. :-) Shawn

Why do we have such different experiences?

Big Mike, you are my hero. Of course, the chickens cannot use the Internet to discuss with other chickens how to get 4 legs . . . Shawn

Open Grave: Japanese Poster at RPG.net has a Copy

The Delves that are provided to game stores by the RPGA are not the ones contained in the Dungeon Delve book. Currently, the Delves are not part of the Living Forgotten Realms campaign, but since both are done by WotC through the RPGA, that could change. Shawn ------ Contributor to Dungeon...

    RPGA Adventures...

If you are a member of the RPGA, you can currently (until 1 Jan 2009) download for free in PDF format 29 of those 3.5e Eberron Adventures that were part of the Xen'drik Expeditions campaign. There are 6 adventures for each of the 4 factions that made up the campaign, and then 5 adventures that...

What 4e adventures have been released so far?

I believe that there will be a way to get an RPGA/DCI number online soon, if there isn't already. Until that time, you can email dci@wizards.com and have them send you a membership card. Shawn Living Forgotten Realms Global Admin

Split the Tree: Help me convince a player who doesn't agree

This is a bit of a misconception. The RPGA no longer makes "interpretations" or otherwise makes clarifying rulings. The RPGA uses the rules, along with any errata or clarifications handed down directly by WotC. In cases where interpretations are different, the power rests solely with the DM...

Origins - Impressions of three 4E Events

Just to be clear on one point. Although these adventures (Escape from Sembia, Kobold Hall, and Death in Skyfire Wastes) were called Living Forgotten Realms preview adventures, they were in essence 4e rules showcase adventures--and their bearing on or similarity to actual Living Forgotten Realms...

    DDI play and RPGA

I may be wrong on this, but you CAN import .jpg maps into the VGT. It just will not render them into 3-D. Yet. The RPGA is going to support the VGT as much as possible within reason. The best-case scenario will be to have "support packs" available so that a DM who wants to run an RPGA...

WotC and Gencon. No Events submitted???

Yeah, I don't have any "insider information," but I plan to be there running the first Living Forgotten Realms events along with everyone else. The entire LFR administration staff has been working hard to get things ready, and there is nothing we can do about business decisions. I'm not...

WotC and Gencon. No Events submitted???

Also note some of the other "big players" that have not submitted events yet. This is not just WotC. Lots of people are waiting to see what's up with GenCon (the company) before they invest too much time and money in GenCon Indy (the convention). I cannot believe it is a coincidence that...

What is this I am hearing about PHB2/DMG2/MM2 being required?

You will never HAVE TO buy non-Core materials to play in RPGA campaigns. Obviously, if you want to use non-Core materials you will have to have them. Shawn Living Forgotten Realms Global Admin

Any New Info on Skill Encounters?

I just remembered that the TORG game had a similar mechanic. At some point of high drama, the game play slowed down and the characters had to deal with a situation. I think they even had cards (drama deck?) that simulated unexpected obstacles or victories.

Any New Info on Skill Encounters?

I ran "Escape from Sembia" at DDXP, and while I cannot talk in great detail about skill challenges, I can say some things: Good DMs in any of the previous editions of D&D could do (and have been) something like skills challenges for decades. The skill challenge system is there to help DMs...

3.5 Gamedays after 4.0 comes out

To add to what the wise Kenobi said, what your friend is referring to sounds like the issue with the to "non-RPGA Living Campaigns" that were asked to cease and desist by WotC. The "advertising" part of the equation was this: if your Intellectual Property is being used without your permission...

    D&D Experience: Anyone else going?

I'll be there the length of the show. I'll be running the 4e Delve and the 4e Preview Adventures, and taking part in as many of the seminars as I can fit in (either as an audience member or a participant). I'm hoping I can squeeze some time between games, meetings, and seminars to get a look...
