Parsantium City Sourcebook - now on sale!

Yes, I took Byzantium as the starting point, but also added Arabian, Indian and Chinese elements. I wanted to create a city where non-Western cultures rubbed shoulders with the more usual D&D medieval European vibe. It's a lot of fun writing about and running games in the setting ;) Do let me...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

The other big one was the Great Modron March/Dead Gods arc which was very cool. I don't think it would work these days as it would be hard to kill off Orcus only for his return to be a surprise when he's on the front of the 4e MM ;)

Parsantium City Sourcebook - now on sale!

Hi, I've just posted Design Diary No.14 here. Word count is now over 76,500 so looking at 81,000 altogether. I'm going to be writing about the noble families next so any fun suggestions for eccentric noble houses greatly appreciated! Cheers Rich

I love the 4e fomorians and the whole Feydark thing too. Very cool.

I think there was a kender in Beyond the Moons too.

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

We've had a lot more detail on both the Feywild and the Shadowfell in 4e products though. These two planes have been one of the best things about the 4e cosmology. Dave Noonan and Rob Heinsoo are no longer working for WotC but James Wyatt who wrote the 4e DMG is the chap posting the 5e...

D&D 5E (2014) Monsters of Many Names - Wandering Monsters (Yugoloth!)

That doesn't sound too restrictive and would fit with them working as mercenaries, wouldn't it? Cheers Rich

D&D 5E (2014) Monsters of Many Names - Wandering Monsters (Yugoloth!)

Hi, I'm in no way suggesting that the yugoloths should serve the evil gods, but who does actually serve them? The evil angels in the 4e MM? Demons and devils? Night hags? I've just realised I have no idea! Cheers Rich

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

Yes, that was an odd decision. Most of those should have gone in MM2 instead but IIRC Monsters of Faerun came out first. My guess is that there weren't enough genuine FR monsters. Cheers Rich

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

LOL, sounds like you're a right rum cove, and no mistake! I'd forgotten about the origins of berk - good point. Been a long time since I've used that expression ;)

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

As a British person, I can honestly say that I've never talked about rattling a body's bone box or slipping anyone the blinds, honest guv ;). The only word from the cant that didn't sound archaic and odd to me was "berk", meaning "idiot", which we might have called each other when I was at...

    Is D&D a setting or a toolbox?

Hi, This is a great question! I think it's kind of both - it's a toolbox for fantasy role-playing but there are so many tropes, iconic monsters and famous dungeons that has its own setting, even if you don't choose to play in Greyhawk, FR or wherever. Cheers Rich

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

I agree completely with this. I allowed a PC in my Parsantium campaign to play a thri-kreen gladiator. Thri-kreen were originally a core D&D monster but have become pretty synonymous with Dark Sun since that setting came out for 2e. I thought about it, we came up with a place outside the city...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

I absolutely agree with this. One of the best supplements for Spelljammer was the penultimate one (I think), the Astromundi Cluster, which finally gave Spelljammer a detailed crystal sphere all of its own and independent of Realmspace, Greyspace etc. I think there was a fair bit of...

D&D 5E (2014) Monsters of Many Names - Wandering Monsters (Yugoloth!)

I think it's probably worth pointing out that James Wyatt went back to the minotaur after lukewarm feedback to the "More Than Just a Shaggy Ogre" version here. Without wishing to open another can of worms, having read both articles, I am jolly relieved that the idea to merge the yikaria/yakmen...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

There was a lot of setting material, but there were also around a dozen adventures. I ran quite a few of these and they were pretty good. My one regret is I never got a chance to run Dead Gods. Cheers Rich
