I'm with you on the eladrin – following the Rule of Cool, the 4e changes with the eladrin as high elves and rulers of the Feywild were much better IMHO. I don't think planar monsters should have a longer amount of story text than others but I really hope the 5e MM has something more interesting...

Hi, I think James Wyatt has got a very tricky job to do. He has to come up with updated 5e mechanics and story text that keep the core of what a particular monster is all about (often one that's been around nearly 40 years through multiple editions) and somehow deal with the inconsistencies...

I'm not sure whether this has been mentioned upthread, but the Blood War was actually introduced in MC 8 The Outer Planes Monstrous Compendium Appendix, not Planescape, and that's also when names like baatezu, tanar'ri and yugoloth first appeared too. Cheers Rich

I loved Planescape but some of the 4e additions were great, particularly the Feywild. I ran a blog carnival before Christmas where posters suggested what they thought the Next cosmology should look like. There were some cool posts - check it out here. Cheers Rich

I was thinking that myself. I'm pretty new to Pathfinder (although I played a lot of 3.5) and I browsed the prestige classes in the SRD but couldn't really see anything cool. Where are most of the PrCs published anyway? Rich

Hi, My spell-less Shoanti (human) ranger has just hit 5th level and I am wondering if there are any good PrCs I should be looking at. The PC has an animal companion (fire pelt cougar) and fights in melee with a sword and shield. We are playing in Rise of the Runelords. Any advice appreciated...

Hi, That could work - I could at least do a table/long list with name, race, sex and then level + class for Pathfinder, level + monster role for 4e. What about all the experts and commoners - make them minions? Richard

Hi, Part of the fun of dimensional vortex and other powers that interrupt an attack like the paladin's knightly intercession is knowing when to use it. I'd let the swordmage decide after damage has been rolled - it is only an encounter power so I wouldn't worry too much. Cheers Rich
