    NEW TRAPS article!

Adjudicating incremental distance penalties isn't fun.

    NEW TRAPS article!

Oh boy! Level 7 traps with DCs under 20. Can't wait to nail my players with these...oh wait, the level 6 ranger has a passive perception of 24, he will see all of these traps automatically unless he is blind.

Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

I'm beginning to wonder if Toughness is too good...every one of my players has it, and when they survive a blow with 1-5 HP, they just grin and say "Who's tough? I'm tough!" I'm pretty sure they have some sort of bet or plan going on behind my back, now that I think about this situation. =)

    Dwarven Fighter Discussion

Yeah, that explains a lot. :) I was just turning around on your +2 AC/Tide of Iron post with a "more damage/different power" thing. Both of the defenders in my Sunday game are 2H (a pally and a fighter although the fighter has a new character), and they are (were) excessively nasty. They have...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

That sounds a bit too convenient for me, especially coming from the guy who asserts he doesn't know what he's being attacked with or how good the roll is. Your entitlement speech fell on deaf ears, too. Ah, ok. You can still move with your own move action, though. So I don't really see where...

    Dwarven Fighter Discussion

Why are you implying that I don't know rules? 2H weapons do more damage (up to +2 on average, which actually increases with multiple dice attacks). Tide of Iron is useless with a 2H. Reaping Strike is awesome with a 2H. Using a 2H is awesome. Reaping Strike is awesome. Awesome = awesome.

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

It is. Check out the new errata. =) Pretty much. I disagree with, well, basically all of this. I don't see what is "too good" about a wizard turning an AC or Reflex hit that was a near miss into a miss once per encounter. The way to get around Shield is to attack Fort and Will, not to say...

You know what else is awesome? +2 damage and Reaping Strike.

I'm agreeing with this sentiment more and more.

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Definitely. Otherwise, you're taking a spell that's useful about every other combat and making it almost totally worthless.

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

I dunno. It's a great spell for sure, but it's not the end-all. Ever since my wizard got his Arcane Gyrocopter he's prepared Feather Fall daily, just in case.

    Dwarven Fighter Discussion

The dwarf is absolutely equal at being a high damage fighter, so long as you take DWT and you use an axe or a hammer. You'll be down +1 to hit vs. a dragonborn or human as a worst-case scenario. Your dwarf abilities more than make up for this. Second Wind as a minor action is godlike. That means...

    Dealing with Healing Surges

Yeah, who wants a challenge? It's better to quit the first time things get difficult! To the OP: I believe your problem is stemming from daily powers, as well. If you do not want to alter your playstyle (and that's your choice, no right or wrong answer to that) I would suggest changing the...

What new "nonmagical" classes will be coming out?

If the barbarian is nonmagical, then the druid also has to be nonmagical; how can a power source be magical in nature for one class, but not for another?

Forked Thread: Knowledge skills in combat

Sound advice, but that's not what the rules actually say. The rules say "make a DC 20 check, learn the monster's powers". So once you hit level 4, you're working with over a 50% chance per character per fight of knowing what the opponent can do.

Forked Thread: Knowledge skills in combat

Yeah, I'm not really worried about the DC 15, or even the DC 25 checks. It's that DC 20 check. Suffice to say, after reading your post, I feel as though I've given out far, far more information than I ever should have. I pretty much ruined the most important encounter of the campaign so far...

Forked Thread: Knowledge skills in combat

Forked from: Knowledge skills in combat Has anyone noticed that monster knowledge skills are very good now? My PCs know every resistance, power, weakness, name, type, and keyword of approximately 95% of every encounter they come across. Is this intended? If so, why even bother with things...
