I've now read the thread, and: I wanted the leftover spaghetti! Leftover spaghetti is the best thing in the world!

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

I guess I don't want to mess with the golem as written. I'm not customizing this adventure to fit my campaign because its taking place as a temporary break from my campaign. We rolled up 12th level Greyhawk characters and went at it. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'll let you know in...

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

I read the description very carefuly. I was hoping that he didn't have the rust vulnerability. Unfortunately, besides the improved DR, the custom weapons, and the fire breath, he's a standard Iron Golem.

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

ACK! Did I say Elminster!?! Don't let Col. Pladoh near this thread! Of course I ment Mordenkainen. And the death actually happened when he entered Maure Castle with Rob Kuntz as DM, go ahead and check the most recent Dungeon Magazine...the forward explains it all. It was one of the earliest D&D...

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

That's fairly elegant. I might go with that. By the way, Metamorphosis says: "You also gain all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form..." The rust ability is listed under special attacks as an EX ability.

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

Well, I am the DM, but the world in question is Greyhawk. This isn't just some random Iron Golem we're talking about. This is the Terrible Iron Golem in Maure Castle...the nigh unkillable baddie that brought down elminster. I can't "rule that there are no rust monsters" in Greyhawk. That's just...

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

Well that just sucks. The whole point of the Golem in question is that its nearly unkillable. The fact that the PC can just turn into a rust monster and obliterate it is stupid. Heck, they could arguabley go purchase a rust monster from a menagerie and go dust the Iron Golem that way. Its all so...

    Rust Monster vs Iron Golem

My PCs are currently dealing with a bugger of an Iron Golem found in a recent Dungeon Magazine adventure. (No spoilers) The psion wanted to use his Metamorphisis ability to change into a Rust Monster. Under the Iron Golem, it says this: Rust Vulnerability (Ex): An iron golem is affected...

The Dark Tower: to Read or Not to Read

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going on vacation next week, and I'll basically be doing nothing but relaxing in nature, reading, and working on D&D. I think I'll call my buddy and borrow the next book for the trip. If I don't like that one, then I'll just say that the Dark Tower is not for me...

    CR/EL/LA oh my

You have it right. ECL and LA have very little to do with CR. Remember that a CR 10 creature should use up about 25% of the resources of a typical 10th level party of 4 PCs. While useful for combat and other short appearances, this does not neccessarily mean the creature is equivalent to a 10th...

    Dungeon 112: Castle Maure comments?

My high level homebrew campaign was on hold for a while so, on a whim, I called a few friends and told them to roll up 12th level characters and have at it. We've played three times thus far, and can't wait to go in again. The first level has been cleared away (except the Terrible Iron Golem...

The Dark Tower: to Read or Not to Read

But I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time even reading this series. I found the first book sort of jarring, and I didn't care for the psuedo sci-fi/fantasy blend it seemed to be. Is the first book a good indication of the "feel" of the rest of the series?

The Dark Tower: to Read or Not to Read

A friend recently lent me the first book in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I finished it a while ago, and now he wants to know if I want to read the next one. The thing is, I really didn't like the first book. I'm not sure if I should bother reading the next one. My wife thinks I should give...

How do you handle selling magic items in your campaign? (New question on page 4)

Great, so I can buy a +5 longsword for only 315gp? Sounds good to me. :p Seriously, though, after 4 years of the standard 3E "items sell for half" system, I'm kind of growing tired of it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what else to do. Saying that you want magic to be "rare and special" is...

What is "grim and gritty" and "low magic" anyway?

Really? I know you're just trying to be insulting but I'm, well, insulted. I'm currently working on my own brand new homebrew world, which will be both low magic and a little more "grim." These are not clumsy mechanics that I'm just throwing into my campaign without thought of consequence. I've...
