    D&D 4E Sooo... 4e Video Games?

I've always fantasized about a game where you created a party and played the game in a 3rd person point of view in real time. But, when initiative is rolled, the camera pulled back to an isometric view (with a controllable camera) and a grid faded into view on the ground. At that point, it...

Keep on the SHadowfell release date?

Does anyone know the exact day Shadowfell is supposed to be released? Thanks

    Ooh! I like it!

    Setting up camp in hell.

Thanks guys! None. It's a GURPS game, so don't let levels, classes or other "D&Disms" cripple a good suggestion. :)

    Setting up camp in hell.

Not really hell, but close to it. IMC, the PCs are going to need to set up camp in a very hostile area. If you are familiar with Eberron, the enviroment is like something out of the Mournlands. They are going to be on a relativly flat plan, but instead of grass, the area will be rock. The...

Battlegrounds: RPG Edition (virtual tabletop software)

Thanks for the reply. I should be able to get by running to instances. I do have a suggestion however: The demo times out at 45 min right? I understand why, but I'm not sure it's long enough. For me to test your program sufficiently, I need to run a game session with it. Game sessions usually...

And I don't. That's what I'm going for in my campaign. That's pretty realistic though. There's a big difference between death's door and final death. Sure, you may to keep hacking at him to totally finish him off, but he's going to be pretty useless long before actual death. It's easier/best...

Interesting. Thanks for checking that out. Still, the real problem wasn't the encounter or the DM situation. It was the problem that a one hit kill is impossible (on a foe of similar level) in D&D. It was just this situation that made us accutely aware of it, and how much it bothered us.

IIRC, this encounter wasn't at Rhest. It was at the bridge encounter which I believe was earlier in the module. Our goal was to destroy the bridge to keep the enemy army from crossing over.

It really depends on your GM. That said, you'll probably need: GURPS Basic Set Characters GURPS Basic Set Campaigns (There is a lot of stuff in there for players) GURPS Magic (If your GM is using the standard spell system.) GURPS Powers (Great book for helping you understand supernatural...

Thanks! My advice is to try not to get overwhelmed. GURPS looks horrificly complex at first glance, but if you take it a step at a time, it isn't so bad. Once you're through character creation it's smooth sailing from there.

I'm not totally against house rules. I just dropped D&D as my main system when my house rules document hit page 60. ;) So far I've been using GURPS without having to do any house ruling. Will I in the future? Maybe. But so far so good.

I'm not trying to sell you on GURPS specifically, but you aren't far off the mark. D&D focusses too much on it's on internal logic and rules instead of paying much attention to how things work in the real world. That's all well and good. My problem with it crops up when someone tries to...

Read the OP. The point was that you shouldn't sit around whining that D&D isn't realistic. It isn't realistic. Don't bother with extensive house rules. There are more realistic game systems out there. Don't be chained to D&D if it isn't really the game you want.

Right, and that's what I'm trying to get away from. For my camapign, narrative doesn't matter. A blade through the heart means death, it doesn't matter who you are. I want the PCs afraid of violence for realistic reasons. That's why I chose GURPS over D&D.

What about the highly trained warrior who didn't notice the rogue and got a blade shoved through his medulla oblongata? Oh, but that can't happen in D&D. In D&D, the highly trained warrior notices and sidesteps just in time, every single time, without fail.

The argument isn't that D&D is broken at all. It's that it isn't realistic. D&D is fine for what it is.

Grapple? He screams. Trip him? He screams. Destroy the bell? Maybe he could have hit it with a hammer? Why be constructive when you can be sarcastic?

No... Round 1: Player: I slam my dagger into the base of his skull! *rolls* DM: Dead Hobgoblin! One attack. No follow up surprise attacks. No AoOs. No elaborate setups. No spells. One round. One attack. One dead hobgoblin. It could happen in real life. It could not happen in D&D.
