Which is another irritation. Realisticly, do you really need all that special training or whatever to decide to hit the enemy in the legs instead of the chest or whatever? Not for me. I like for the players to have more control. I like for them to be able to decide where and how the enemy is...

No. I'll explain it again. The problem wasn't that the hobgoblin was too powerful. The problem was that, in the game system, there was nothing the PC could do to kill the hobgoblin in one hit before he made a noise. This isn't realistic. In real life, it may be difficult at times, but it...

Oh, I agree. I myself would have just house ruled it. But then, it was the desire to house rule it that sent me looking for another game.

Ok, let's try this again then... In D&D he would have to perform some kind of foot sweep on the passing goblin, provoking an AoO himself. If he succeeds, the hobgoblin falls. The next round he gets back up and continues toward the spellcaster. In GURPS, the fighter permanently crippled the...

Ok, We'll take it step by step then. Precisly my point. No. And it's not the point I'm trying to make. How is this relevant? I understand how the attack can fail. Yep Yep That level of lethality is exactly what I want. I want to PCs to know that one lucky shot from kobold #2 could...

How do you perform a trip maneuver with a sword in one hand, and a shield in the other as an AoO without dropping either? You can't perform a trip with a sword.

I said it is impossible to walk up and stab the man, killing him with that one attack. That is not a situation with which you can use coup de grace, and it does not include additional time and/or manuevers to make the target helpless.

 You could have saved yourself a whole lot of typing if you had bothered to read what I've been saying. I'm continually astounded by the lack of reading comprehension in this thread.

I ignored the mentioned of coup de grace because it isn't accurate. Per the RAW, you can't coup de grace an opponant just because he isn't aware of you. And for what it's worth, I haven't really ignored the coup de grace comments. I've already mentioned that it wasn't a legal use of it a page...

You mentioned that this was "Red Hand of Doom". Which encounter was it? If you refer to the "Bell Tower" encounter (p.59), then the encounter is supposed to be with three hobgoblin veterans with 20 hit points each. Not exactly a description I would associate with 'mook'. I don't know for...

:) People are reacting like I'm attacking D&D when I say it doesn't fit my preffered gaming style. And oddly enough, I really like D&D. I'm really looking forward to 4e. I just see it as a secondary system choice better suited for less serious campaigns. There isn't anything wrong with it. It...

The scene that convinced us was when a hobgoblin tried to charge by the fighter to get to the spellcaster. In D&D, the hobgoblin would have just probvoked an AoO. If he lived, the spellcaster would be screwed. In GURPS, as he ran by, the "fighter" slashed the back of the hobgoblin's knee. It...

It's funny.. I say that D&D's rules do not work for the kind of game I want to play, and I get an avalanche of "just house rule it". Is it really so wrong to seek a system that DOES work for the kind of game I want to play? That was my point with the OP. I'm tired of house ruling. At some...

But that is the kind of game I want. I’m not using GURPS like D&D. This isn’t a hack-n-slash, kick-down-the-door, kill the monster, take the loot kind of game. What can be used on NPCs can be used on PCs. Violence becomes a scary thing, only used as a last resort. Like real life. And yes...

Thanks! Unfortunatly, the other I did aren't on this computer. You might be able to do a search for them over on the SJG official GURPS board. I did a big post of them over there about a year or so ago. Should still be there. I'd find it for you, but my work filter blocks it. :( I've got...

He wasn't. In the OP he was a mook (from what I could tell anyway). I don't remember the levels exactly, but he was a few levels lower than the rogue. In the post above, I'm pointing out that it's unrealistic that the rogue wouldn't be able to kill a fighter at equel level. A lower level...

I think some of you are misunderstanding the reason I posted the scenerio in the OP. A 5th level rogue, standing behind a 5th level fighter, cannot kill him in one blow. In reality he could grab the fighter and cut his throat. He could drive his blade into the base of his skull. He could stab...
