I once started writing my own "perfect" version of D&D. After the first 100 or so pages, I realized it was easier to just buy it. ;)

Because I've promised myself that I'm not going to be spending hundreds of dollars on books for 4e like I did for 3e/3.5e. I don't expect to buy much more than the core three books plus maybe a campaign setting.

I don't like the idea of having too many classes. With feats and talent trees, I don't see why we can't just have Warrior, Expert, and Spellcaster classes.

I for one hope the three core books contain all the info I need. I've got about a thousand dollars worth of D&D books that I never use. I'm not making that mistake with 4th edition. I'm saying goodbye to my "gotta catch'em all" buying habits.

Awesome news. I never liked the Teifling being showcased on the cover. I guess I'm just too "traditional", but I'd kinda like to see a dragon in a dungeon or something. :\

I've got two groups. Group one has dropped D&D entirely in favor of GURPS 4th edition and Mage: the Awakening. They/We have a wait and see attitude about D&D4e and that will determine whether or not we want to give it a try or write D&D off for good. Group 2 is in the middle of a 3.5 game now...

Now there's a thought. Specifically, I want to know what value these books have after the 4th edition core books come out. Why should I pay $20 for a book that will be useless in just a few months?

It's really starting to sound like they are making the classes too narrow. I'm sure new classes sell all kinds of books, but do we need a separate class for every possible character type? I thought that's what Talents and Feats were for. :\

Agreed 100% I like to be able to come up with a character or adventure concept and be able to go to the books and figure out how to make it work mechanically. On the other hand, I really like to be reading through the "rule" book and have ideas spring into my head as I read. The 3.5 PHB does...
