    WotC Blogs II

I like this push for more story, or "fluff", in the D&D books. When I go to the bathroom, I usually swing by my book case to gather a little light reading for my stint in the fortress of solitude. 90% of the time I grab a White Wolf book. Why? Because they make for interesting reading. D&D books...

Roles, Power Sources, & PHB1 Classes

I kinda have to disagree there. As a professionals designer, my approach is to establish a good idea of what I want to build then set out to build it, not calling it complete until either the end result meets my original expectations, exceeds my original expectations, or requires a revised plan...

Roles, Power Sources, & PHB1 Classes

WOTC has already tagged the Ranger as a Striker, so that leads me to believe they are reworking him for that purpose. Seems to be focussed more on archery now, which I don't really care for. As far as the Fighter being a Controller... Fighter get a lot of feats. That means they'll get access...

Roles, Power Sources, & PHB1 Classes

True enough, but this isn't just fitting the pleasing pattern, it offers more options for players who like certain types of characters but want a little variety to spice it up. Nothing wrong with that.

Roles, Power Sources, & PHB1 Classes

So apparently classes are being designed to fit into one of the following roles: Defender, Leader, Controller, & Striker And apparently the PHB1 will deal with three "power sources" for characters; the arcane, divine, and martial. So why not put a class of each role and source in the PHB? For...

    Playtesting?

If it's just random I can't see the initial wave of emails taking more than a few hours. Figure a day or two to get responses and to send out more emails as needed. They should be totally finished by Friday at the latest. EDIT: Being totally random, I can't see much good coming out of this...

    Playtesting?

I'm crossing my fingers and remaining hopeful.

    Playtesting?

So anyway... (thanks PKitty).... I've had a bad week. Some playtesting news would be most welcome, even it just to put my mind at ease that the selection is finished.

    Robert Jordan is gone

The series was getting back on track. Despite a few bad books, I was always a huge fan. He will certainly be missed. :(

    Playtesting?

Or they could spend an hour going through threads and picking posters who seem like good candidates. They could start with the "playtesting" thread on the "4e Rules" board where people have already stated they've got groups ready and willing to test.

    Playtesting?

:D I do hope that the selection isn't truly 100% random or else the results will be of about that caliber.

    Playtesting?

No idea. Mysterious are the ways of Wizards.

    New Design: Wizards...

I suspect there will be a magical enchantment similar to flaming or ghosttouch (or whatever the new equivalent is) that makes the weapon function as one of the four components. For example a wandstrike longsword +1 or a set of runic full plate +2 that functions like a tome. I really dig this...

    Playtesting?

So it looks like they've decided to go random after all. I guess the only thing to do now is cross my fingers and hope for the best.

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

At the risk of a mass lynching, I'll say that I too despise Tolkien. The movies were better than the books.

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

Big cataclysms also make the "points of light" thing work with the Realms a lot better.

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

Historical events could still be discussed, but they don't really affect lives, or more importantly, adventures. For example, when is the last time you went to some sort of get-together because of Pearl Harbor? Now what about 9-11? As time passes, and other major events happen, events of the...

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

It's a "reset" because even though all that history remains, it doesn't remain relevant.
