    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

If you go to a restaurant and they stop serving any kind of beverage, it doesn't matter if they added 30 food items. They've still made a horrendously bad choice.

    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

I have less of an issue with some features being maybe slightly over or undervalued and more of an issue with a lack of guidance concerning things like paralysis, petrification, and other effects that essentially bypass hit points. Include those, and I think the 2014 monster creation guidelines...

    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

The chart was only one part of a far more robust process that can put out very interesting and cool monsters. Just reading the numbers off the chart was a bad approach, but is sufficiently accurate to allow off-the-cuff improvisation in the moment when the DM throws out an impromptu encounter...

    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

The monster creation rules have only ever been in the Monster Manual in 3.5. In every other edition with monster creation guidance and a system more robust than "just write down whatever"- which is to say, everything after 2e- it has been in the DMG.

    God I hope so.

    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

Got the new DMG today and I looked at the Making a Creature section. Let's just say that if the rules for monster creation aren't in the MM instead of this extremely deficient garbage, I am probably giving up on the 2024 rule set. I haven't been real happy about the direction of the game in...

D&D General Harshest House Rule (in use)?

That's how my game rolls. 5e has a lot of elements that help enable mixed level play, and the fact that levels 1-3 fly by is a big piece of it. You have to be judicious to pull it off, but I vastly prefer pcs whose history happened through play.

What fantasy creatures migrate with the seasons?

I actually have an every-seven-year migration of digesters (from 3e) in one area of my campaign (and probably elsewhere, but it's only come up in the one place). I can imagine tons of other monsters migrating, especially Beasts.

    1001 Words players should know

I just wish Anglophone gamers could learn to pronounce "coup de grace" and not "coup de gras".

    D&D 5E (2024) Overthinking Long Rest in 2024

What is a flat white? I've never heard the term used except when describing colors.

    OOTS 1312: Poor Sleep Hygiene

OMG, as a dog and cat owner, this is super relatable. This may be the cutest episode of OotS ever.

    Oho! I missed that!

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Nonsense. I had plenty of 8 (or more) encounter days. The fact that cantrips never run out means that the casters are still punching at their weight even with no slots to use.

    What's the difference?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Magic Items, Crafting, Etc

The new rules don't seem too concerned with balanced play. Yes, they buffed a lot of martial stuff- but they also buffed full casters. Was anyone thinking they needed help? Grumble.

    D&D 5E (2024) So how do you remove disease in 5E 2024?

It's the fact that it imposes a universal mechanic on all diseases with game impact that I don't like. Of course not. But what's the difference? We've seen the eliding of any mention of things like slavery in recent years, which may be because of sensitivity concerns; and while I appreciate the...

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Handle Mounted Combat in Tight Spaces?

Not everyone always gets to shine, and sometimes, there is something that makes someone's best toys not so great at the moment. This happens to everyone and it's okay. If the party wants to make sure that the guy on a mount can usually use his mount, they should try to select their adventures...
