Subclass is thematically defining, also for many classes it is also party-role enabling. The nice thing about first level subclass is that you can have a cleric that is a tank, or a warlock /sorcerer who is the primary healer in the group. That is gone. And that is a huge negative in my book...

Do you remember when we allthought elemental affinity added your Charisma bonus to all the damage rolls and not just the first one? Then they errata'd that interpetation away?

Idk, the removal of subclass at first level is a gigantic negative that offsets a lot of the gains.

Yeah, that is a reasonable fear. I don't hate WotC, but right now it is hard to be its cheerleader. Too much stuff happened last year. I'm not even sure if I want to keep playing og5e. If the community turns too toxic, I might have no option but to retreat to 3.5, or do my own stripped down...

I have an opposite view. Since 1/3 isn't planning on going forward, that means there's room for a substantial 5e-grognard community to continue -there are enough differences between the non-editions and unmet wants with the new one for it to be possible-. I mean if the desire for iterating...

I reacted bcause you noticed. However notice that your suggestion deliberately excludes a character concept, and makes playstyles harder or impossible. Which can be felt as a giant "I don't want the likes of you in my table" so not very nice.

To me it is one step forward and three steps backwards with sorcerer. The QoL looks nice to have, but the loss of level 1 subclass, the changes to twin spell, and the refusal to revise dragon magic, storm magic and wild magic for bonus spells make it so that I'm not as enthusiastic about it.

While I could eventually be swayed, I'm not buying, nor adopting the new books. I'm not convinced I would keep playing/running 5e though. Without it being the current edition, I'm not that inclined to keep playing it, at least not as written. Would have to heavily houserule it, but I'm not sure...
