My own RPG [WIP] - input needed

Do you think it's better to make a static "1-3 on a d6 is a failure; 4-6 is a success" rule or to sum up the results from the d6s like in L5R?

    D&D 3.5 Reprints in September?

Back to the topic - what is/was a Dungeon boardgame? It seems "Dungeon!" is not a fake, after all...

    D&D 3.x The indispensable 3.5

I guess what I like is: - a vast choice of races and classes - multiclassing - prestige classes [note, I'm not saying they are perfect, but I prefer them to the paragon paths of 4e because they're not limited to a particular level and class] - templates

    D&D 4E The Indispensable 4e

Idk about Skill Challenges, but those get my vote: - flexible DC - minions - easy monster creation - progressive AC - action economy - same mechanics for everyone, no "linear warriors quadratic wizards" anymore - At-wills, Encounters, Dailies - extension of the 3e Tome of Battle system, which I...

    warlord healing

I think temporary hp are good, but it'd be better if the warlord healed afflictions/states and left hp to the cleric.

    Alignments anyone?

I tried making a variant using personality traits, since I'm dissatisfied with alignment. Yeah, when it comes to describing spells such as blasphemy, it's fine. When it comes to describing your character, it stops being fine. The subjective problems and the degree of it restricting the player...

    Sexual Dimorphism in Humanoids?

The idea of drow females being stronger, bigger and smarter than drow males has cropped up in AD&D "Drow of the Underdark" and also in the novels (even though in 3e and later it is not supported by the mechanics). So we could say they are the male chimps :P

Supporting the "Three Pillars" Combat, Exploration and Roleplay equally?

I think good rules for relationships/family (like someone mentioned the FATE), social background (ancestor/background feats, but without the mechanical part) and for reputation or honour are the way to go. Yes, I know reputation and honour are in Unearthed Arcana, but I want it not squeezed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiers for D&D Next (Basic, Advanced, ...?)

I guess you are right. I hope Tiers will be well done in 5e though.

    Are ability scores really needed?

What if we didn't have skills, but had only ability scores? Then the ability scores would really be necessary. Or, could it be done the other way around? Remove ability scores, leave skills?

Increasing Out-Of-Combat Effectiveness For All Classes

Hmm, what would you say if the skills were to be only attribute checks with certain modifiers? That is, instead of checking Athletics or whatever, you check Str, maybe with a +2 bonus for being well-trained. Someone else suggested it in a different thread and I think it's a good idea. Second...

    D&D 5E (2014) Innovations I'd like to keep in 5E

I have to add those to my list: - minions - fast monster creation - quickly learnable mechanics - swarms - varied possibilities and options for every class - themes I guess I'll have to make my list a page on my website, then, since it's growing so fast...

    What *is* D&D

I guess it's because levels and XP are also present in most RPG games.

Cleric design goals . Legends and Lore April 23

Turn Undead was not mentioned in the article. I agree that many clerical spells in previous editions were not subtle at all; I guess the offensive spells will go to the priest class. As for Apollo, I guess it was a filler - since the article said the gods were not fleshed out at the time he...

My own RPG [WIP] - input needed

Also, I'm thinking of making skills (both combat and non-combat) also fit the 1-100 scale. The bonus to the d20 throw would be the number divided by 10. 2 points per 1000 XP spent.

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

Well, that's a fair point, but it's a role-playing game. Why does everything have to be set in stone instead of people using their imagination? ---------------- The idea somebody had earlier - the one with spending XP on non-magical healing (other than resting) is a good idea...

    D&D 5E (2014) Innovations I'd like to keep in 5E

You have a point; how would you do that though?

    What *is* D&D

D&D is: - six ability scores - saving throws - rolling a d20 and some other dice - armor class - hit points - Vancian or AEDU form of spellcasting - a lot of races and classes and spells to choose - high magic

    What *isn't* D&D?

    What isn't D&D: - classless point-based system which uses points for everything - mana points system - a boardgame - a miniatures game - non-(quasi)medieval setting

The Basic Math of D&D 5: Maximum Points

I wouldn't make any combat last less than 2 rounds nor more than 7-8.
