What to do about half the pc's party dying

Ah, I see. That clears it up. All I'll add is that in my experience, TPKs or partial TPKs are notoriously hard to predict, especially with a group that has "been very very lucky and [has] gotten out of encounters that should have left them more hurt." Whenever I've thought they were all going...

Patrick Aidan "Cashel" is home! (pics)

Oh, she's doing just great! He was born by c-section 2 mos. ago, so she's fully recovered now and back at work part-time. In fact, it's just me and Pat at home today, and he's wrapped up like a burrito and konked out in the bassinet...which is the one and only reason I have any time to post. :)

What to do about half the pc's party dying

Ugh! Might as well kill them all. "Okay, you survived, but you can't play your characters anymore" isn't really that great a thing for a DM to impose upon the group without consent. ...and how do you know in advance that they're all going to be killed? Sounds kinda weird without the full story.

Do they have that ability too in 3.5? ;)

Patrick Aidan "Cashel" is home! (pics)

Thanks for the well-wishing, everyone! We are also extremely relieved...it's his fifth day home and he's doing just great. Me, I'm like Ren Hoëk in "In the Army": "No bed...no sleep...NO NO NO...BED BED BED..." (maniacal laughter). Not really, but it's funny to think about. Yes! He's such a...

What are the best "Gamers seeking Gamers" websites for finding a new group?

Not a new resource, but this thread was started by a friend and former DM of mine. Not sure if it's close to Carlisle PA, but it's in PA! ...And he's a swell guy, a very enthusiastic and energetic DM, and...did I mention he's a stand-up guy? :)

Patrick Aidan "Cashel" is home! (pics)

Born three months early, thriving (after early setbacks) during his 66 days in the neonatal intensive care unit at Georgetown University Hospital, my son has finally come home! I don't get much sleep, or time to post, but I thought I'd put up a brag shot or three. That's him and me in the last...

    D20 Modern Wish List

Softcover books chock full of short, themed scenarios that can be dropped into any campaign. Each scenario should be playable in an evening (4-5 hrs.). Possible themes: places of mystery (Stonehenge, Tikal, Lost City of Gold, etc.), journeys (airport-, train station-, bus station-based, etc.)...

    2005 WotC d20 Modern product: d20 Apocalypse

Looks like a great supplement, especially considering my current campaign is a time- and dimension-hopping romp in D20 Modern. Probably won't be buying it though. Not because I have any gripe with Mr. Drader's design work, but rather because designers who sink to the level of their online...

Reverse Gravity - the sky is the limit ?

Awwwwww, yeah. I once had a 2e wizard of mine cast a Reverse Gravity on the middle of a huge volcano's magma pool. Due to the peculiar workings of the spell, I had a column of flowing magma stretching into the upper atmosphere, where it was solidifying...until I teleported about twenty miles...

    Kill Bill ULTIMATE Edition

I think there's a single-film version coming out August 5, 2005--you know, both flicks edited back into one movie (the way it should have been from the get-go). If it does come out, it's the only thing that'll get me to buy another Kill Bill DVD.

Dimension X-The Man in the High Castle

What a great book that is. You might want to look into, I think, some books by Harry Turtledove. I haven't read him, but I know he's big into alternate histories. In any case, TMitHC is a great source text for a campaign. I've got lots of info and session summaries online for my time- and...

Tell me about your House Rules for Action Points

Okay...so here's what I'm planning on doing: Action Points A character can spend 1 action point to do one of these things: 1) Alter a single d20 roll used to make an attack, a skill check, an ability check, a level check, or a saving throw. 2) Use a class talent or class feature during your...

Tell me about your House Rules for Action Points

That's an interesting idea...one that the Martial Artist in the group would appreciate. I hear that in Grim Tales, you can spend an AP to automatically confirm a Crit. How 'bout some other stuff like that?

Tell me about your House Rules for Action Points

...and how have they worked out? My players are a little frustrated with the 1 AP per round, 1d6 per AP rules as written in D20 Modern. I've considered offering a reroll of the d20 for 3 AP, and allowing multiple APs per round (but no more than your level divided by 2). What have you got for...
