Chris Perkins teasers from Comicpalooza in Houston

He is indeed. Don't fret if you missed this year--next year, Tracy Hickman might come down too! Every year is bigger and better.

Chris Perkins teasers from Comicpalooza in Houston

Can I just mention that Comicpalooza was awesome? SRM, Chris Simms, Chris Perkins, and Ari Marmell are stand-up gentlemen. Can't wait until it'll be big enough to be considered the GenCon of the South.

Adventure 2: Swimming in Lake Seela

I also had the players swim out there, and then swim back when Indomitability made his way towards the town. We traded a few good whacks before he ran, though. That was probably one of the top three encounters of the adventure. It wasn't that bad a swim, especially considering you're likely to...

    Does Torrent get XP?

I'd recommend holding tight--my party had some trouble with some of the early encounters, but about 1/4 of the way through the second adventure, they started hitting their stride. Everything started to look like a pushover.

Test your "War of the Burning Sky" knowledge!

Hey, 9/9! I guessed right on the airship. ;) I've run the first two adventures, and have just started the third.

How Often Do You Actually Play?

Weekends have two advantages: The ability to start playing earlier, and the ability to wake up late the next day. If I played after work on a weekday, I'd have to start my game at around 7pm and kick everyone out at around 10pm. That's not a lot of game! What times do you start/end your (you...

How Often Do You Actually Play?

Reading through the replies, I'm kind of shocked how many people play during weekdays. I don't know how you do it!

How Often Do You Actually Play?

Voted 1/week, but it's really closer to 1.5/week. I run weekly D&D Encounters and I run a ever-other-weekend home WotBS 4e game. If you would've asked me about a year ago it would be 0/week. Such is life, eh? Thank you D&D Encounters! What made my home game come together, though, was the...

More than 4 at the table...

I think 4e is pretty easy with a group of that size (I've done 7-8 people before), but I'm guessing if you play Pathfinder, you probably don't want to play 4e. Also, I've done World Tree RPG with 7, and even as much as... I think 10 or 12? Based on experience, I think 4e is more amenable to...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

I'll probably end up making and printing a few characters at a few different levels to last me 6-9 months, and end up paying for another month when I run out of characters or I need to make a major update of a character. Tweaking a character's magic items is pretty easy, and I'm sure I can work...

    Gaming, Adults, and Growing Up

I think the problem is in terminology. A game is something you can easily leave behind, a hobby is a longer investment. I think that's how you should approach it and sell it--"hobby," not "game."

how many people here own an Ipad

The advantage of e-readers, in my opinion, is the screen--it's a lot easier to look at for an extended period of time. But, I probably wouldn't get a Kindle--there are a number of good off-brand options that support more file types. Battery life = infinity is a nice perk, too.

What are you doing to keep the hobby alive?

I'm another GM for D&D Encounters. I encourage new players to the game, and periodically seek out new players. Back in the day, I helped organize a gaming club at my university. I think it's good to do similar sorts of things for any hobby you like.

On my way to St Hives I met a man with seven Hives...

Hey, congrats! I remember the days when I had a post rate higher than Crothians, and was later one of a few with such a rate. How schedules change!

Yeah, in my opinion: not worth the money.

    No Ordinary Family

I get the kid is really in over his head--he may be a genius, but he's still acts as irrationally as kids do.

So far, I'm enjoying the show. It's interesting to see the extent of the son's powers, so far.

Keeping track of combat length (for posterity)

I think I've been good about making a habit to record the stats for my games, but I haven't had time to put everything up!
